Going away to Carlisle on a Tuesday night in Febuary takes some beating. Freezing cold and a 0-0 draw and a 12 hour round trip. Pre play off days both sides were camped in mid table had nothing to play for and it showed.
One note of interest a young but still ugly Peter Beardsley played for Carlisle.

Reading 0-0 Peterbrough cup game, Mad Stad freezing cold Tuesday or Wednesday night in the Tommy Burns era. It also had one of the lowest attendances at the Mad Stad, if not the lowest. I think it was our second season at the madstad, although we also played the exact same fixture the year before (was our second ever home game at the Mad Stad).

Reading 0-0 Leicester in 2005 I think it was. The first half in particular, absolountly nothing happend. In fact the only thing I remember is Sonko kicking the ball out of the stadium. One person on here said they saw someone reading a book in the second half!

Most boring game I ever went to didn't involve Reading.

Villa 0 Middlesborough 0 - was invited on a corporate jolly back in 2001 (?) when Southgate had just signed for Boro from Villa. The whole ground spent 90 minutes singing "there's only one greedy b@st@rd" at Southgate in a vain attempt to breathe life into the dullest 90 minutes of midfield stalemate I have ever had the displeasure of viewing. I remember checking that stats later to see that there were only 2 shots in the whole match - both off target!!!

At the end of the game Balbo Boskobobbins or whatever his name was (tiny serbian or somewhere like that striker?) came round the corporate bit and I thought he was a waiter and asked him to get me a pint of lager. He didn't.

Oh and it was January and fkn freezing!!!

A match against Oxford at the MadStad at something stupid like an 11.30 kick-off on a Sunday morning (!) in about 98/99 - the one that was going to be on Sky and was moved a couple of times before Sky dropped it like a hot potato when someone mentioned a small risk of trouble.

Freezing cold and absolutely nothing happened all through the game. Took my daughter with me, she slept through the whole game and people around me commented on what a good judge of the game she was.

Reading 1 (Friday 59 secs) Workington 0. Score within the first minute, and you think you are going to smash them out of site. Then nothing. :x

0-0 away to Darlington at their old Feethams ground; utter dire football, typical Branfoot hoofball with zero quality about it.

Why memorable? It got us the point we needed to secure promotion in our record breaking 13 wins in a row season.

On the other hand, I can remember going to watch us at Sealand Road, Chester for a midweek game just before they moved to the Diva Stadium; I genuinely have no recollection of the game whatsoever, just that there were no pubs open at all before the match, and that the traffic jam leaving the industrial estate were I parked was amazing bearing in mind there had been less than 2500 at the game.

Worst in recent years was the 0-0 away at Watford in the Prem; turgid rubbish from both teams.

pooandwee How about games you remember because you were so cold. Hull City 0-0 at Elm Park, can't remember the year. But it was so cold that all I remember of the day was leaving early and stopping at Rivermead on the way home for a nice hot chocolate.

Oxford United, Manor Ground, mid-90s, winter

My brother went THIS COLOUR

Whore Jackie
bobbybottler The Walsall triptych of tedium in January 03.

Hell's teeth.

Not forgetting the Stoke, Palace and Wimbledon hat-trick of 0-3 defeats in December of said year.

That was hilarious. Well, by the end of it, it was.

Jan 76??

I "remember" that one, our promotion season.

We were about to embark on our blip. Home to Barnsley (O-0) soon followed and was poor, ditto 0-1 home to Donny.

Happy days.

From Despair To Where? Home to Chesterfield 1988-89. 0-0 and not a single shot on target by either team in the whole game. The highlight was Gary Phillips fluffing a backpass and putting it out for a corner. As I left, I remember thinking that if I lived to 100, I would never see a game quite so shit or devoid of incident. Think West Germany v Austria in Spain 82 without the goal. Admittedly most of the games in the arse end of the Porterfield era ran it close, a 1-0 defeat at home to Bolton being memorably unmemorable.

Long time reader, first time poster.....

That was my first Reading game, I was 9 years old, and I got to play on the pitch at half time with my local team (Woodley Wanderers). The only previous football match I'd been to was England v Chile at Wembley (0-0) - A record low crowd as far as I remember. I'm surprised I ever went to another game....

Wasn't this the 2-1 defeat where Adie Williams or Phil Parkinson body blocked Jamie Lambert? I seem to remember it was shifted around because Sky wanted to show the Celtic v Rangers game as well.

I'm Pretty sure this is the one where I fell asleep, we Sat in the North Stand as the West was shut. Had stinking cold and can only remember waking up and thinking what the F*** am I doing here.

There are lots of other games I don't remember as my memory is crap. It still amazes me that I can speak to some one who can recall what happened in matches from 15 years ago. I just don't have that capacity left in my brain.

Stoke City 0 Reading 0. 13 January 2001.

I think there was only truely one, maybe 2 efforts on target in the entire match. I also took a neutral friend to this match who has not bothered to see Reading play since, it was the most boring game ever.

However, Reading 0 Luton Town 0 Boxing day in 95, maybe 96 deserves a mention, but we did hit the post in that game, but it was still a crap match.

weybridgewanderer 21 October 2003: LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
READING 0 WALSALL 1
Samways (4 mins).

this has always lived in my memory as one of the worst games of football I have ever watched

there was champions league football on the tele that night, this game was an advert for staying home and watching man utd or arsenal!

I took our neighbour to that game - we arrive 5 minutes late, hence missed the goal and then had to sit through the remaining 85 minutes of tedium. Needless to say he never suggested coming to a game again .....

Welling vs Reading...FA Cup
No score until deep in extra time during the 2nd replay at Elm Park or something boring like that.
