Super Kevin Bremner! 6th in the Championship with a squad most of the other 23 managers in the league would love to have at their disposal. Two new bidders after the club and on course for possibly our 6th or 7th highest ever finish in the league.

But let's all panic when we don't add to our already excellent, well paid squad.

Let's face some facts here. If we weren't in a transfer window then hardly anyone would give a toss about the finer detail of the club being shifted on.

Fewer clubs than ever are chucking money at their problems nowadays and the January window is always one that's talked about in terms of poor value.

Sometimes football supporters get irate when their club is inactive like they're a bunch of kids that have been waiting for their birthday hoping they're gonna get a brand new BMX because that's what the kid who's got minted parents got, only to find out their mum and dad were of the opinion they should be happy with the BMX they've already got.

Good points and spot on, BUT the club are the ones who constantly raise expectations around signings and then don't deliver. If they didn't make claims that money would be available, we'll talk to Soton in a few weeks etc etc then fans would know where they stand

Madejski has built a club that is now a genuine contender season in/season out for promotion to the Premier League. Sometimes we achieve promotion, sometimes we don't.

With his money he knew that would always be the case, so he's tried to get someone in with pockets deep enough to take us to that next level.

He thought he'd gotten that with the Russians, but that ship sailed slightly in the wrong direction, although you could argue that the Russians' small investment in the January of the last promotion season, saw us sneak over the line and earned the club our second crack at the big time.

JM has not, and is not failing as a chairman of our club. He's not prehistoric. If anything, he's realised that the modernisation of the game and the spending requirements have moved on to a level he can no longer support, and taken action to solve the problem.

There ain't that many people out there willing to cough up the dough to buy a club like Reading, so the fact he's even found someone to stump up 51% is impressive, and thank god he did retain 49%, otherwise where might we be if the Russians had 100% control?

Like someone else has already said though, the club are damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they say they can't buy players people get disgruntled. If they say they wanna buy players people get disgruntled if they don't, and if they say nothing then everybody gets pissed that they've left us in the dark.

I don't doubt for one minute the intention remains that we add to the squad, but it's got to be done in such a way that the value is right and when the money is definitely there. Who knows as well, there is time left and players may still come in.

Royal Rother No idea why people perpetuate this lie that we never make signings. Bizarre.

I'm not sure it's the "we never make signings", it's more the " we never make quality signings." Other than Pog (possibly) name me one real top half Primmadonnaship we have made..... ever.

"Excellent squad"?
3 right-backs and one left-back
3 centre-backs only.
Which of our "excellent squad" (and presumably Excellent is one that excels at this level when we are 16 points off the top) would be up to playing in the Premier League?
Mc Carthy, Pog and..................................................................................................?

The stated aim at the start of the season was promotion and we then sold our best centre-back.
Surely it is not unreasonable to expect the squad to be strengthened to have a ccrack at promotion?

RR,
You can take a different view from many of us because:-
(a)You don't go to matches (this is not a promotion side)
(b)You are dispassionate (because you don't go to matches)
(c) You are an accountant (say no more)

All of that is true and why my views are worth reading.

I'm not caught up in all the bullshit stuff that clouds your mind.

I don't really think the issue is whether we spend or not. I think the key thing is the boring bollocks of the pretence of spending.

Clouded perhaps by the hype from the club which appears to go straight over your head.

Good job we're in the Championship challenging for promotion then yeah?

It's not realistic to think we should have top quality in each position. There's plenty of clubs that would have taken Shaun Cummings or Steven Kelly as their left backs. Adkins stumbled on Obita there and he may do a job ultimately, so don't get the huge problem there.

Looking back through our promotion squads throughout history, there's always been a player or two that just simply did a job. If Leicester piss the league this year, then I doubt they'll have more than 3 or 4 players in the Championship team of the season.

Really good to see the some glass half full views. I think the negative folk are more vocal than the silent positive majority that are part of this forum. Just because we haven't got an Internet ego doesn't mean we don't care or support the current mgt / chairman!

Don't forget that before the 94/95 play off final, SJM did say that he was looking for another buyer of the club - especially if we got promotion.

why sack a manager?if you dont give his replacement cash to set up his own ideas for promotion.Every new manager is given a budget big or small. So where has all the money gone that was promised to NA ?Love to see the accounts for 2012/13.

Depends which accounts you want to see. Don't expect the answer to be as easy this time. Anton left the club with some large debts, and much of the future money was allocated away as well.

True things are looking good.

But in Reading's case promising to spend big then not delivering was a tragedy whic ph cost us survival, is now possibly costing us a promised promotion, and this raised huge alarm bells to those of us not inclined/asked to be club apologists.

And we were proven 100% right as we now know.

Having said that, now we've been proven right to the crushing humiliation of club apologists who must be feeling pretty f**king stupid for having defended the club pretending there was nothin wrong with the no spend! we're quite calm because we can see the problems and aren't asking for cash to be splashed as we know the truth now, without the interference of apologist mongs trying to convince us there isn't a problem when there was.

Funny what happens when the truth is told eh? Also funny and convenient that the truth is told AFTER season tickets have been sold on the back of a lie.

Tragedy?

Crushing humiliation?

Did they ever promise to spend big?

Did they ever promise promotion, sure it was the goal this season but I don't remember it being promised.

And what exactly was the lie that they sold season tickets on? I bought a season ticket to watch 23 matches of football, so far they are on target to give me that.

Exactly. People interpret what the club are supposed to have promised based on what they've read other posters saying on here, and what's been gossiped about down the pub.

Plus, shame on those 'fans' who only bought tickets because they thought we'd make signings.

That is the epitome of fickle.

this is exactly why we will always be a second class club. no Big investment in the team. JM should have boosted the finances (as a business man) When Steve took us up the first time. The academy could have waited until we were an established Premier club. He did promised to extend the stadium if we stayed up that year, we did ,he didnt. Now investors see us as a yoyo club and its too late now.So until we get a far sighted owner this is the way it is going to be sadly.

Yawn. Weak counter argument: "they didn't PROMISE anything".

AZ strongly implied six or seven players would be coming in during the summer. He implied lessons were learned and money should have been spent in Jan. He implied that was BMs fault.

JM said we are looking to strengthen in January, that the takeover won't hinder that and money was available, through a combination of his and Anton's money.

No promises, sure. But if this isn't deliberately misleading I don't know what is. And its this I'm bored of. Just say: we've got no money (how, though? How have we got no money after selling Kebe and Maps? And the parachute payments? And Longs sell on fee? How?). Just say: we are not going to invest in the team like other clubs.

Just be honest. Fed up with the constant bullshit every window.
