TiagoIlori
One8Seven1* I'd be more than happy with that. Why are we suddenly a club that doesn't want to give a decent coach a chance at being a manager? He's got top experience with a very good manager in Rodgers, as both a tactician and how his teams play football; so he's had good schooling. His contacts at Leicester and Liverpool might help with a few loans too.

People’s heads been turned by a few minor rumours about Wilder.

Not really sure how people can go round demanding us to be financially sensible and all that then say the club should go all in for Wilder following suggestions the club are unsure to whether they can afford him.

I just want to see a proven manager with a track record at this level. I have had enough of unproven managers and if we can get someone who can gradually improve the team over the next 2-3 years I’ll be happy with that.

Yes, Davies could be a revelation and then we lose him after a year as he’s done such a great job or we he could try to adopt a style of football that’s a disaster in League One. I appreciate whoever we appoint it’s going to be difficult but I’d rather have someone who knows the league.

If Davies is a revelation and does such a good job he’s poached, then everyone’s won ultimately. The club would be in a better position than how he found it.

There aren’t really many decent “knows the league” options that we can get. Cotterill and Cowley are a bit below what we can get. Lee Bowyer is questionable at how he manages the media, Leam Richardson has only had one job but Neil Critchley would fit into the club’s philosophy on the other hand, whether he’ll go as soon as Gerrard gets another job is anyones guess.

Is Ferguson available or did he sign for longer than the remainder of the season at P'boro? If they lose the P/O Final, he'd be absolutely perfect and might like the chance at a bigger club.

I know what you’re saying. Like many others I want Wilder but realistically that’s not going to happen. I’ll support whoever we get as long as it’s not someone random from a team we’ve never heard of before. At least it sounds like an appointment will be made by the end of the month.

TiagoIlori Lots of people betting on Chris Davies (yes the assistant to Brendon Rodger’s and has been a coach here before) by the looks of it. One of the few people that haven’t been managers before I would be content with.

I put his name forward on here 6 weeks ago - to deathly silence at the time.

If he comes with a similar possession style football, I'd giver him a go. Defences in L1 would be ran ragged chasing the ball on the deck and not in the air.

The abiding thing I remember about Rodgers time here is his abysmal tippy tappy bullshit that would be absolutely rinsed in L1.

Oh the joy of watching that first home game against Forest and realising that Rodgers had basically told the team to retain possession above everything else. And it only occuring to them with 5 minutes to go that you can't win if you never try to cross the halfway line.

I want someone who knows how to manage in a lower league, because it's oxf*rd hard work and no fancy plan survives kick off. And someone who wants to play actual football, not tedium0-0ball.

Coaches trying their first managerial gig are fine if you have a club ethos and a solid and successful base established.

We don't. We're a rebuild a ruinous shambles from.the ground up job. It's too big for a first time manager.

In fairness Rodgers learned a lot from his disastrous spell in charge of us. His Swansea team played much better football. Liverpool and Leicester too, obviously. In theory Davies has learned that lesson.

That said I feel pretty rinsed by Paul Clement.

It's interesting how people say this but a lot of the criticisms of him from Liverpool and Leicester fans after he was sacked sound like the criticisms of him by our fans after he was sacked here.

Rodgers is a one trick pony - bit like us in Stam's second season, once teams work it out, it all falls down like a house of cards.

Well Ferguson is now unemployed. I’d take him in a heart beat.

Equaliser in the 8th min of injury time, gotta feel for Posh - but blowing a 4-0 lead takes some doing!

Reading's manager records over the last 30 years or so:

If you take above 35% as being acceptable win ratios, then every manager appointed since Stam falls short except one (and no prizes to guess who that is)!

Pos Name - Win Ratio % - Loss Ratio %
    1. Alan Pardew - 48.3 - 27.4
    2. Brian McDermott (1) - 45.0 - 29.6
    3. Steve Coppell - 44.3 - 31.6
    4. Mark McGhee - 43.2 - 29.0
    5. Jaap Stam - 40.8 - 35.7
    6. Mark Bowen - 37.2 - 34.8
    7. Nigel Adkins - 36.3 - 38.8
    8. Quinn/Gooding - 35.8 - 36.6
    9. Steve Clarke - 35.8 - 37.7
    10. Veljko Paunovic - 34.9 - 43.3
    11. Terry Bullivant - 32.0 - 40.0
    12. Paul Ince - 31.0 - 50.0
    13. Brian McDermott (2) - 30.0 - 43.3
    14. Tommy Burns - 29.4 - 44.1
    15. Brendan Rodgers - 26.1 - 47.8
    16. Jose Gomes - 23.6 - 39.5
    17. Paul Clement - 23.3 - 50.0

The average tenure of each manager over the above period is 686 days but only 369 days for managers appointed after Jaap Stam.

Edit: to include loss ratio!

Peterborough fans don't want him and that was before last night. Tactically he only knows how to attack and his league record normally includes a lot of goals in the against column.

Well at least that'd be a improvement on Ince!
