Yeah, I know. I was trying to fit in the biggest number of teams what had come third.

By 1996, they'd definitely created a long term era of success - which they then built upon. At any point prior to that, you could make a solid argument against.

The one thing in their favour is that no one is really taking advantage of their fall to create a new long term era of success.

It took a few years between Liverpool's fade from glory (let's date the start from Hillsborough, so while they won the league again in 90, it wasn't until 1996 (give or take) that United had properly come through to dominate. In that period, you had Leeds win it once, Blackburn win it once, Villa finish second twice and third place finishes for Spurs, Palace, Norwich, Wednesday, Newcastle and Forest.

What with the change in money coming in, a short period of relative chaos before a new pecking order sets up would be great fun.

According to Pardew, the highest Palace have finished is 10th.

It's the highest they have finished in the Premier League. They were 3rd, I think, in '90 or '91.

Sanguine So, Marcus Rashford! Not a bad start. Seems to strike the ball cleanly (better than SterLOLing at least) and has a good sense of positioning.

Needs to bulk out a bit, but that will come with age and training.

Really? How many players are that bulky? Not many. It's all about strength work and not putting on bulk. You don't want bulk if you're running around for 90+ minutes.

I didn't mean turn into a bodybuilder, he just looks a little weedy. Perhaps "bulk" is the wrong word. Harry Kane did the same thing IIRC. As did Andy Murray.

Shane Long did, got it wrong and looked vaguely reminiscent of the bulldog from tom and jerry.

He still looks like a bit of a kid, so I'd go along with that.

You don't want him bulking up too much of course, and perhaps he'll always be on the Peter Crouch end of the scale, but in an ideal world he'll grow into his body like pretty much every other 18-20 year old. Hopefully that means he'll become a bit stronger like a more traditional number 9 like you Shearers, Drogbas or Austins but without losing any of the mobility and pace, unlike Long.

It's the first European game with anything in it for the neutral in years.

Problem is JMW all of the fans of the "big" clubs are massive cnuts.

City fans tbf were always cnuts despite what they might say, Arsenal Chelsea man Utd all utter cnuts. Spurs? The worst kind - they've done nothing but think they are the biggest club in the world. See also Newcastle, Brighton.

Ie tiresome dullards

Apparently 'what we want' includes a vile Hillsborough song at Anfield last night. Ironically hours after their away support had been (rightly) praised on Talksport. Stay classy, United fans.

Unfortunately it works both ways with idiots from either club. We've had a small minority of Liverpool fans mocking the Munich air disaster and United fans have mocked Hillsborough and Heysel.

No reports on United smashing up the Anfield concourse or toilets as Liverpool fans did at OT though. Perhaps it hasn't been reported yet.
