Royal Ginger After a good spell at Leeds he was pretty hopeless at Ipswich. Support Feds or not, McCarthy is not the magic miracle fix.

So what does that make the player who has cost us 3pts in 2 games?

RoyalX Just to throw something else into the mix, the new ball is also being used in La Liga and Serie A.

My mate who was watching the Bologna - AC Milan game said that one of the Milan goals was a goalkeeping howler...

Casillas is struggling with the flight of the ball from set pieces.

The first game of the season being a prime example:

he's always been overrated imho.
(Yes, he's good, but he's not as good as people make out. Benefits of playing for a good team.)

Seem to remember Casillas making the most saves in La Liga one year, despite "playing for a good team"...

Yep 2007-08 season. Most clean sheets despite facing the most shots. Don't know how anyone can call him overrated with what he's achieved in the last few years.

Then again it is Ideal we're talking about, they gave him an IQ test when he was a child and the results came back negative.

We need to show feds our support now more than ever. If we keep shouting to get rid of him it will destroy what little confidence he has left. If 4,5,6 games down the road he is still making these blunders then it might be time to think about putting mccarthy in. But for now get off his back and show him some loyalty. After all we wouldn't be in the premier league without him!

Absolutely agree.

He kept 20 clean sheets last season.

Feds won't give a sh*t about what's written here, even if it does somehow get back to him.

He'll pull a couple of miracle saves out of the bag in the next few games, and everyone'll love him again.

I don't understand the hype behind McCarthy. He didn't exactly set the world alight at Ipswich or Leeds. Federici has a few errors in him and sometimes I think he makes the saves look more impressive than they need be, but the truth is he is better and more experienced than AM in my opinion.

The Portsmouth fans seem quite taken with Mikkel Anderson after he saved a penalty to help them win their Johnson's Paint Trophy penalty shoot out. He seems to be a good prospect (though not ready to be thrown into our first team yet, obviously).

He certainly did at Leeds, they raved about him.

He is a far, far better keeper so young than Feds was at the same age. he's as good a shot-stopper but his judgement and command of his box is, to me, far better. (Lest we forget, 4-5 years ago, when Federici was about the same age as McC is now, he had some calamitous games - e.g. away at WBA, home to Man Utd in the Cup, etc)

That suggests to me that if he gets the same games and experience that Feds gets (which he hasn't so far) that he can become much better than Feds.

Put another way, I don't think Federici will ever get better than he was last season. I think McCarthy has the potential to get much, much better than Federici will ever be. He's not there now, but he'll only get there if he plays and gets the chance to gain experience.

100% agree.

Leave Feds alone. Let's concentrate on the rest of the squad, gt them up to speed. Feds will shake this off. No big deal.

He has been shown loyalty, he was given a new contract, if he plays the next 4,5 or 6 games I don't think he would give a goal away in each of the games, but if he did that it would be nine games in a row, what do you think that would do to McCarthy?

In a sense I agree that McCarthy has more potential than Federici at his age... but we're in the big time now. Can we afford to take a gamble on such a key position, when AM might not fullfill his potential? No room for error at this level, although admittedly Federici has made enough for a whole season already.

On that basis no player will ever make a debut unless there is absolutely no-one available who has played some games.

no it isnt
if someone says:
at this moment the experienced Federici looks more error prone than the inexperienced McCarthy

i think its pretty relevant

didnt say you cant start him ahead of feds, or that he isnt/wont be a better keeper than feds-not really makeing any judgement on the players

im just saying that saying feds looks more error prone than mcarthy at the minute, makes no sense without seeing mcarthy

I get what you're saying but I think it's probably a bit exaggerated. He has made two mistakes in two league games and a couple in a pointless cup game. Anyway, this injury may make the decision for Brian. I would probably on balance drop Fed anyway but lets not get carried away with how bad he's been. That's not going to serve anyone.

Aside, I still can't believe we didn't inquire about the Craig Gordon, what with him being a free agent. But that's irrelevant now I guess.
