Not watching it now, he started but understandably found it difficult to get in the game. Don't think he touched it until they were 3-0 down, he showed a couple of flashes of class in the first half but not much. Also a nice touch when all the Atletico players were complaining about the free-kick goal, he pulled them away from the ref, obviously he has a bit of dignity as well as skill.

Never mind the contest Chi, I'd pay to watch Messi when they were 10-0 up. When they had Ronaldinho, Eto'o and Deco in full flow in 2006, they were the best team in the world to watch, on today's evidence they might be again.

Anyone know who the oxf*rd Sergio Busquets (sp) is?

Thanks for the link, it says that 'The next season, Busquets was promoted to Barça B under Pep Guardiola. He didn’t play until the 12th game.'

Would I be right in thinking that Barca B play in the third or fourth tier of Spanish football? If so it seems strange that he goes from there straight into the Barca first team.

i understand it is harder to get involved in a game that one does not care about but the best spanish football can offer >>> the best English football can offer (and the best English games are always ones like Villa Spurs, teams that aren't up at the top but still have some talent). Anyway, I like watching it, in small doses. If you want a truly mental football experience, try Colombian football. That's absolutely batsh1t.

Isn't it a case that the whole B side is young, so while individuals are good enough to step up, the team will probably change a fair bit from week to week and they're lacking in terms of experience and physical presence. Atletico Bilbao have something different where they have something like seven local clubs all affliated to some degree.

Barcelona 3-0 up inside 9 minutes, 3rd goal was a free-kick where the keeper wasn't ready and Messi knocked it into the corner. Atletico score from 30 yards out about 2 minutes later, Barca 5-1 up after about 30 minutes, Messi then gets the ball in his own half and beats 6 players before shooting wide, about a minute later he beats another couple of players.

Whereas in the Premiership we have Rory Delap.

I watched it too and was amazed by the first half......however I thought Maxi's goal was superb and Barca's best goal was Henry's stunner!Messi is the new Pele...he used to beat lots of players then miss, whereas Maradonna seemed to score after doing that.

I think "better" is very subjective. I remember the first time I really got into foreign football in any way. It was watching Milan beat Real Madrid 5-0 in a european cup semi-final in the late 80s. At the time the press here were, in their typical blinkered way, calling Liverpool the best team in the world, but Milan were on a different planet. I got quite into Italian football for a while and I enjoyed the different style, and there's no doubt that if it's pure skill that floats your boat, then highly technical football is better, but I still find a good English game is just more exciting than a good Spanish/Italian one.

Hoffenheim are doing well.

In the MLS, NY Red Bulls finished 5th in their division (losing more games than they won ...) and are now the divisional champions of the other division, with a chance of actually winning the whole shebang. Which just shows that Americans have their own ideas about sport and woe betide anyone who gets in their way.

I've been watching all sorts of highlights on mightfootball.com. Some of the Spanish football makes me want to actually find a decent bar in this sh1thole of a city and watch it properly. I wish I'd managed to get a job abroad rather in this bastion of unemployment, obesity and track suits.
