You might find yourself being very lonely at your protest.

readingbedding Absurd and ridiculous reading it must be said.
We were always going up anyway, but now with the old boys back we can do so with some style.
Well done Steve Coppell.

So my suggestion that the return of two players who have hardly played in months and proved abject failures at their current clubs might, just might, be a touch desperate is 'absurd and ridiculous' but your assertion that we were always going up anyway isn't?

I believe the technical term is
LOL

Floyd of course you are absolutely right.

Unless we could sign players who are currently in the starting line up for top 4 Premiership sides then why bother ?
We've got a couple of players who we know, who know us, who have both performed exceptionally well for us, who have every motivation to give us 10 top games.
Of course there is a risk, but then there is with every transfer. I'd say the risk with these is fairly small.
Hard to see how it is 'desperate', the deals may not be successful but we could spend several millions on a player and not be guaranteed them making an impact.

Let's see how they do on the pitch, slating what seem quite sensible (even slightly audacious) moves for no apparant reason seems negativity for the sake of it. And you are not someone I'd call negative (not to your face anyway)

Can't believe it.

Crap wind up, just shockingly bad.

Give it up, you'll only end up embarrassing yourself again....

Royalee You must be on a wind-up.

It's Thames, of course it's a wind up. Not even a very good one.

Can we please all be positive for the rest of the season, well at least for the next 6/7 hours or so anyway?

Thomas L'Heureux Is Kevin Doyle unambitious?

Wait, hold the phone, how old is Doyle?
Then look at how old Kitson is.
The older you are, the more desperate for Premier league football you are, because you know your time is up.
Usually.

It's a loan.

I can't decide if this is good news or bad news.
We already have Doyle, Long, N Hunt and Lita challenging for places.
I can't help but think this is Coppell trying to push Lita and Long out the door.
:|
Still, I think Kits will help greatly.

papereyes Kitson's 10 goals in that relegation season equalled the goals from the rest of the strikers put together. God knows how we'd done had we ended up relying on Lita for goals. :|

Oh, and we're not really scoring enough at the moment given that we went a fair few games without a Reading player scoring.

If it means that Coppell has all but given up on Lita and our strikeforce is Doyle, Kits, NHunt, Long then that almost suits my "strikers should all offer something different" criteria.

A further point is 74(14) 42 at Championship level. That's approaching a goal every other game.

I know I'm not a Team Board regular, but I thought stats were disapproved of on here. Wild speculation and unsubstantiated opinion are what we need.

Harry Carry I think you fickle fans should swallow your pride and be pleased he's coming back. You can't blame him for wanting to play in the Prem and earn more money, we'd all go for better, higher paid jobs if we could. It didn't work out for him, so get over it.

Bloody hell - a sensible post from Kes, and one that I actually agree with. Two novel experiences in one post

Great news. Should be just the two signings to drive us on to promotion.

Welcome back Kitson - all is not yet forgiven but in two months if we win promotion it will be.

Snowball This sort of attitude is great when the team is rolling-over other teams, but it's a bit headless-chicken (or can easily get that way)

We don't CONTROL the game.

Yes, I've thought that - and moaned about it - for a while. It was true last season, too, when things started going bad. I don't think the team - or, perhaps, the coaches - are very good at going back to the drawing board, back to first principles, and starting again when things are no longer working. High tempo is good when it pressures opponents into making mistakes, or we can take advantage of a lack of readiness. If we are the ones who are disorganised, then we just waste possession when rushing. When things are bad, we just need to chill the oxf*rd out a bit, and do the basics well.

Kitson may have had a bad attitude last season, and most of us agreed it was for the best that we let him go.

It didnt work out as he wanted, and the man reportedly causing the trouble (Shorey) is no longer here, i'm sure he has had a "wake up call" if you like, and now has something to prove to us, himself, and the Premiership.

Kitson has an astonishly good strike ratio for us (54 goals in 111 games iirc) and if his attitude has changed then most of us will give our top scorer for 3 of the last 5 seasons a second chance.

We have missed his stature up front, and he adds that extra dimension that could be the difference between going up and staying down.

Ignoring the fact this is a wind up, Doyle was also offered a couple of new contracts over the last 18 months or so and so his wages probably reflected his market worth a little more than Kitsons.

If I were Kitson I'd have been disappointed if the club weren't willing to pay me what another club was willing to. He was a star performer over his years with the club, none more so than in the relegation season when he finished top scorer.

I wonder how much of him leaving was him 'walking out' and how much was down to Coppell thinking he wasn't one of those he wanted to hang on to when decent money was being waved under his nose.

The pure fact that he appears happy to come back, despite wanting Prem football originally, proves to me that he has realised his mistake, that the grass wasn't greener, he was happy here and wants to try and get us back up so he can stay here. If, however, he thinks he's our saviour and we all owe him a favour or something, I'll be pretty annoyed with him.

Thames Whilst football is a VERY fickle game, even I am shocked that people are happy we've re-signed Dave Kitson.

Kitson walked out on this club when the lure of big bucks and the Premier league came calling. I even overheard him in one of Reading's late night venues boasting about his move and criticising the way Reading FC was run.

They won't give me the money a star like me deserves

That was one outburst that made my blood boil.

So, I'd like to hear from you, the fans of Reading FC, why exactly are you happy with the re-signing of a this ginger haired traitor??

I will be doing my very best to force him out of the club once and for all - starting tonight.

like previously stated, it's his job. reading got 5.5mil, kits got a new contract and premier league football. everyone was happy. it hasnt worked out. hes back and hopefully will get us goals to get us in the top2 spots come may. so i think i speak for many nobbers by saying DO 1!

One other thing that hasn't been mentioned is the question of money. The original £5.5m quoted from Stoke presumably included sums to be paid only on achievement of conditions - appearances, goals, &c. It looks likely now that Kits wouldn't attain those targets anyway, so we can kiss goodbye to that part of the fee, so his transfer is already less valuable in that sense to the club.

The remainder of the sum would presumably be paid in installments. If this is a move with a view to a permanent move in the summer, this perhaps makes good sense to both clubs. Stoke get rid of a player who has not been a success for them. As they will almost certainly come back down, this enables them to trim their wage bill of expensive squad players and to eliminate the outstanding debt of the unpaid residue of the transfer fee. Presumably the transfer back to Reading would be equivilent to the unpaid, so his return will cost us nothing (speculation, I know). A fit and happy Kitson banging in the goals for us is clearly worth more to the club than whatever is left of the outstanding transfer fee. In that sense, it becomes a win/win transfer.

He may also think that Reading is his best opportunity of playing in the PL at the earliest opportunity, given where he is in the pecking order at Stoke.
