soggy biscuit Sausage man - how will Nigel react to no atmosphere, song sheets and rumblestix?

Probably the same way he reacted to two mascots dancing to Gangnam style whilst at Saints.

Good evening gentlemen (and women!?) and thank you for your replies and welcomes, it is appreciated. I'll stick around as long as I'm welcome and of course, with NA managing you guys now, I'll always have more than a passing interest in how you do - as I think a few Saints fans will also have, too.

It's a tough ask for Saturday but with the defenders you have at your disposal and with Andy Crosby's help, Nige might be able to keep it fairly tight at the Emirates. Problem is, Arsenal will always have chances. Then again, it's football, anything can happen and in NA you have one of football's winners.

I'm very confident when I say you'll enjoy his tenure in charge, whatever division you're in next year. Once he's been given a bit of time to get his ideas and approach across and bring in his own players, you'll start to see a pleasing change in what I assume, was a rather "dour" style under McDermott.

He'll start his PMA work soon, I'm sure and once you've all start buying into that like the players, they'll respond and you will too. It's funny, really, but what he says and does really impacts the supporter base and playing staff and in turn, it eventually becomes a continuous cycle of positivity. You'll soon become a united club and the "feel-good" factor will return with NA in charge, I'm sure.

He'll probably wind up a few opponents on the way, too. I used to love reading the "Adkins is a smug ****" comments on other fans boards :D

The truth is though, he's a just a bloody nice guy and good at what he does. Jealousy, eh?

Anyway, good luck to you!

Agree, he seems like a decent sort of bloke to me. From the outside looking in, I would say the Saints hierarchy probably didn't think he was glamorous enough to take them to the next level considering they've not been to shy in splashing the cash. Who knows? they could be right and the new fella might tear up the League.

Good appointment for us I reckon but there is a lot of work to do here before we can seriously start competing in the top tier. I think most will be glad to see a bit more in the way of entertaining football. McD did extremely well for us but his style was not to everyone's liking. Of course, like all fans it's great when you're winning but we've come up brutally short this time.

Does he ever talk about Skillful Soldiers, educating players rather than training them like a dog and World Class Models?

I remember passing Adkins on the Winchester high street a few days after his sacking. It made me wonder of the crazy thought of Brian getting sacked and NA becoming Reading manager before the season ended. True story.

As this post is utterly pointless I reserve your right to tell me to Oxf*rd off newbie and whatnot.

At least his wagging tail personality is interesting. Reminds me of postman pat but I'm sure that is positive.
Thanks for the read.

Nigel's football philosophy

Manager Nigel Adkins has pledged a passing mentality in his team.

The boss is keen to play attractive football and has immediately set about implementing his strategy at Hogwood Park.

He said, "I want us to pass the football, I want us to win games, I want us to enjoy everything we do.

"We will work hard, we will be structured, we will be organised and everyone will pull in the same direction. I know that's something that has been demonstrated in the last few years at Reading anyway.

"It's a change, we need to keep building on the things that are good. I want us to pass the football without fearing of losing it, our teams have notoriously done that, we look to score goals, and look to control games.

"Those changes don't have to wait until the summer and we've started now. You can’t do everything in one go, but we do need to make some changes to what I want. Gradually we introduce them so that they can take it on board. Sometimes you put the change in and it does take a little bit of time, you need a period of time to that bed in and become more proficient."

Nigel and assistant Andy Crosby have held a number of discussions with both players and staff, recalling, "We were all in a room together, I've done a presentation and we got a good interactive talk going. That's what I wanted. I've got a lot of belief, there's an inner belief amongst the players, you can see the camaraderie, the spirit, they work hard. They've traditionally worked hard. Now what we have to do is galvanise ourselves. It’s an 8 game season, what we've got to do is work through one game at a time.

"The players were very close with Brian, he was very successful here at Reading – but we've all moved on. I’m in charge now and we've got to be together. The reaction we've had on the training ground and in the meeting this morning was very good, very interactive, which is what I wanted. Everything was very, very positive today.

"We’re in the Barclays Premier League and we want to remain here. We've worked hard to get to this position, we need to keep working hard, be efficient in everything we do and give us an opportunity to win new games of football."

The problem with our fans is most of them will be expecting NA to turn us around overnight, the board will go into meltdown if we lose heavily on Saturday .

in all honesty, I think following the events of the past two weeks, most Reading fans will be accepting of any result.

To state the obvious (which seems to be most posters forte'), its all about next season.

When it was first announced that Mcdermott had been uhmmm moved on, to coin an over used phrase, I spoke to my son and we both agreed that the one person who was head and shoulders above any other manager option was Nigel Adkins, absolutley delighted that Anton has seen fit to give this highly talented manager the chance to turn us into an attractive and winning side, NS that was a great post enjoyed reading it.

I agree with all that you said I think he will be outstanding at the Mad Stad, his forthright interviews and the impression he gives as a man manager we couldn't be in better hands. It is now time to put to bed the past 8 months and start afresh, Guthrie, Pearce et al........

Great appointment, get ready, for those who are more fortunate than I to see the team play each week, as the transformation from a kick and rush side to an attractive footballing side starts this weekend.

Welcome and good luck Nigel now lets all get behind him and show our 100% support for the new manager.

Does anyone find it odd that when Adkins was appointed there were many on here who railed against his supposed smugness, arrogance, and general square peg in a round holeness?

Since then, every Saints fan who has come on here has said Adkins is approachable, and affable to the point of over friendliness.

I wonder who is right, the knee jerkers or the people who have observed and listened to him for a number of years.

First impressions are well and good, and he comes across as the right choice so far, but at the end of the day its on the pitch where we need to see the feel good factor not in the press room.

Cheers, Sausage - that was a superb insight into what we've 'gained' as our new manager. To me, that's what I think we have, we have actually 'gained'. I have never seen Adkins as a sideways step after McDermott. A similar breed, similar outlook and philosophies, but I think Adkins does like to play a different, more progressive style.

Kudos to the Saints fans who dare put their head up above the parapet and comment 'in peace'!

Fantastic, the positivity that this has generated is now coursing through the viens of HNA like an adrenalin rush.

All we need to do now is give him £30 million to spend on transfers and we're, errrrmmmm, sorted.... oh bollox...... :|
