Ascotexgunner
Elm Park Kid How bad would things have to go for him to be the worst appointment in our history?

Sack him now and he would have the record.

Maybe our board should have read this thread from Southampton.

https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/topic/60119-selles-out-now/

It's pretty damning.

To what end? Not like we could do anything about it, and to write him off before a ball is kicked under the summer we had would be all kinds of dumb.

Now they might be right and that might transpire here but a bit off judging for now. Though the same line up and insipid performance in the next game or so and major doubts will creep in.

Actually he wouldn't as he's averaging a point a game which is still better than Clement.

As bad as I knew Clement's era was, that's still a pretty damning statistic.

With two defeats in the league, you may want to check your maths. 0 divided by 2 is 0

Tbf of the 3 competitive games he’s had, 1 was prob the best performance since the Bournemouth 3-1

He does seem to have some sort of plan, and can see signs of what he wants to do. Atm it’d take a lot more PV type displays to think it’d be a good idea to sack him

Unless he walked I don't know how we could ever afford to sack him anyway, silly point notwithstanding.

It's only a replacement that would cost.

From a certain point of view we've had 135 quality minutes, 45 ok minutes, 45 poor minutes and 45 dire minutes. So he's actually more good than bad. It's just most the quality was in the cup and the worst 45 minutes is the most recent.

Agree on league games only but in winning a competitive cup away to a team from the division above, which fielded a very strong XI, I think he gets a little slack. After tomorrow evening hopefully there won't be any discussion to be had on this point anyway.

Agreed, Jimbo. Need a change, or League 2 is on the horizon. Dai needs to act during the international break so we can bring someone else in and sack them during the international break after this one.

No point they will only bring in someone just as clueless. May as well keep him to oversea our relegation.

Really don't like seeing managers keep changing but this needs to improve or I don't see him lasting until Christmas

Have to say he proved himself to be just not very good last night. God knows how he'll measure up to things against the better teams in the division like Bolton and Blackpool, wonder who Reading have got next....

So far, half a good manager.

Sets up to press and be high energy, and is proactive with his subs.

Unfortunately some of his subs are bad. And he's set us up to play out from the back with no means of doing that through midfield.

The Mola sub was costly last night - who'd have thought a player with no preseason signed on Friday may not be up to speed.

But agree that overall he is showing good signs with plenty of learning points. At our level, any manager with experience will have blemishes on their CV, including Wilder. So it's a choice between "inexperience" or "rewarding failure". We've gone with the former.

It's funny that this summer's recruitment is what we've been asking for for years, and one rocky month in people are saying "Yes we need a rebuild but not with that guy".

Selles should be an absolute last resort. If relegation is a serious risk 20 games in, fine. But we're not there yet. If he's not the right man long term, ideally we make the call at the end of the season and give his replacement preseason instead of a firefighting brief.

Sacking Selles would be up there with the stupidest things we could possibly do at this point in time

They actually have a plan. It’s not working ideally yet but it needs time. We’ve just changed virtually the entire squad, and brought in a load of kids as a long term strategy; which is what we’ve all been asking for about a decade

so far we've played

1st
3rd
4th
6th
13th
and 24th

Now admittedly they may not have been in the positions they are today when we played them. However, it does show we've played a lot of teams who have started the season well.

100% with you ... think signings have been really good so far. We seem to have some kind of plan, although it's not fully successful so far ... last two games could have gone either way. Agree though that he made some mistakes yesterday, but will hopefully learn from them.

Y'all know how bitterly anti Selles I was. Should never have signed him and I can only see this going one way.

But ffs it's far too early to knock him. Took time for me to come round to the idea fully, but truth is if you're going to give someone a go, give them a fair go. Get behind the lad and reassess at Xmas. Look at the positives: the 4-0 win away. Yes I know even Taxi got us a flash in the pan 4-0 win but still that was cool. AND he's the first manager who had the audacity to break up the popular but awful defence. And I like the style he plays and enjoy watching the side.

Enjoy the ride, let the team mature together and see what comes of it. At best he'll prove to be a rough diamond and do well. At worst he'll have given a chance and confidence to our younger players such that when he does get replaced the new manager will have something to build on.

I can understand why fans are angsty. 5 years of dross, relegation, a shit show of a summer and now some of us are calling for *more* patience after yet another disappointing start, this time in L1.

We've shown more patience as a fan group than we knew we had, and more than most fans would.

But if the call for patience is simply adding to rage, it should be directed at Dai who this all stems from. Not Selles.
