YorkshireRoyal99 For arguments sake, £16m a year means an average weekly wage of just under £12.5k, assuming we have a 25 man squad all earning the same. Let's say we take the signing on fees out of the equation which knocks it down to £11k a week, again for arguments sake, we could offer him our average wage that is more than 5x his current wage, why wouldn't he be tempted by that?

Offering long and stupid contracts like Liam Moore's is a problem because he is earning PL-like wages at a club that cannot sustain PL-like wages. It's not exactly stupid to offer a 3 year deal for Rino on £11k a week, it's a pretty respectable Championship wage all things considered. He may get better offers, he might not, but it's certainly competitive.

You can’t remove numbers randomly ! The £16m covers all money paid to players.
He might not be tempted because we’ve been under paying him IF HE HAS BEEN ON 2k.
If an employer had underpaid me for years I’d be very wary of resigning. It’s not like he’s a local or genuine Academy product with the ‘loyalty’ that Tom H or Tom Mc might feel.

Offering 3 year deals commits you to that amount long term. We may well have to reduce our spending again next year....

Unless we do something really stupid we shouldn’t have to

The salaries that have got us where we are now - Swift, Moore, Aluko, Baldock, Gunter, McCleary, Obita, Puscas, Mannone, Popa, Yann, Meyler + many more should be long off the books

Keep sensible and within the basic guidelines - no huge squads, no players earning 20k+ a week and we should be fine

Hence the "for arguments sake" part.

He agreed to the deal though, he's been well inclined to ask for a move away if he feels he's been underpaid by us and could get more elsewhere and a better career for himself. As far as we know, he hasn't. This is our opportunity to offer him a relatively fair and competitive Championship wage that is probably several multipliers larger than what he currently earns without breaking the bank to do so.

Why not just use the numbers rather than play around with them and then have to say ‘for arguments sake’
It’s all rather pointless. If you don’t know the restrictions, the current wages or the player then just inventing stuff is no basis for knowing what might happen.....

Because as you've mentioned correctly, we simply do not know what the numbers are, it's all hypothetical. Agreed though, it's pretty much a pointless debate as we do not truly know what players are earning and why/why not they would/would not sign a new deal. I suppose there can be an argument for both sides.

We must have time to spare.

Losing Swift is going to be a big blow. He’s a huge part of both our creativity and goal threat.

We’re lucky that we still have Joao, Meite, and to a lesser extent Ejaria, but all of them have fitness questions. We managed to get away without replace Olise but we would really be down to the bare bones without Swift.

Hound I’d like to see Thomas, Barker, Ehib and a few fringe players start. See what they are about and if they are worth signing

Not that bothered by the result. Anyway just start Ejaria and we’ll win regardless of the rest of the side

Ejaria can't play so we can see what affect those players have. :P

I want at least 1 win or 2 draws in the last two like stranded. But like you I want to see more of some of the fringe players.

I'd probably begin by starting Thomas, Barker and Tetek if fit.

Then rotate out any that have poor games and bring in Azeez, Camara and maybe Bristow.

Seriously tempted to give Southwood another couple of games to decide his future. We pretty much know what Nyland brings in a more solid team at this point.

Ehib / Clarke wouldn’t start for me, but would like to see at least 15 - 20 minutes as subs.

Wrap Meite in cotton wool so he doesn’t pick up an injury going into the close season.

Would love to see all of that……but….the results of which, would be pretty much falsified by the other ‘dead-rubber’ opponents doing exactly the same thing. Gotta start with something I guess.

Intrigued with Barker above a lot of the others…reckon there's some decent potential there

I don't think the quality of opposition matters, its not finishing the season with a whimper, and instead taking something more positive for next season into the summer.

Agree on Southwood. Would like to see him given another go

Don’t see any downsides to Thomas and Barker starting. They’d sign again next year, will be cheap and may be good enough and would help build for next season

Noises coming from the Camara camp about other clubs. Sadly think he’ll be off. Azeez would be worth a start

I don't know what Clarke has done wrong not to be given a go from the bench. Would love to see more of him if there's nothing to play for. Big lad, young, hungry, scored 2 goals when not even playing the whole game. I'm sure the lad has a lot to offer us. His rise was cruelly cut short by injury after those goals.

Camara going would be a massive shame if it happens as he looks potentially full of quality and one I'd be giving 15 games to next season.

I think this is a sensible step for the club; let's offer P. Ince a 1 year contract. If we do ok next season (lower mid table or higher) then let's extend it by 2 years. Give him a chance to build something here.

TBH bar the 2 goals in the Brum game, he always looked a bit out of his depth - which is hardly surprising given his age and the fact he was pushed into the team as a result of necessity rather that being ready. There have been rumours on his work ethic not being quite to the level expected and being shown by other u23s, so that may have something to do with why he seems to have disappeared a bit. That some badly timed injuries.

Not sure if Clarke is ready personally. There are probably reasons behind why he can't get into the first XI in the U23's at the moment. I don't doubt there is potential there, but something seems amiss there.

It would be a shame if Camara left as he's showing promise. Maybe we can offer him more of a look in with the first team next season potentially but I can't see it happening.

Agree with most. Southwood, Barker and Thomas probably deserve a start in these last couple of games, see if they can prove themselves or earn a deal for next season as well in the latter two's cases.

Tetek if fit as well, I hope it works out for him here and he's been on the fringes of the first team for a couple of seasons now. A couple of injuries this season have held him back, but I'm hoping he can play more of a role.

Not sure that'll be relevant next season. We'll be grateful to have him.

My question is can we afford to offer T. Ince a contract - and if not will his dad want to stay?

I would imgine we can offer one but he won't be short of offers, he can do better financially. Think he'd be happy here though.

The Inces could make an appealing double signing for struggling championship teams that have more money than us to spend (basically everyone).

I think we can "afford" to offer him something, it just depends how much of a hit he's willing to take.

£10k a week or something would probably be about reasonable, but rumours are he's on about £25k at Stoke. He probably won't get that anywhere else though.

If P. Ince stays on, it's definitely a good incentive for T. Ince to stay on.
