anyone else catch the bloke on ssn news talking about west hams transfer dealings

saying something along the lines of "west ham are perceived to have loads of money, and they feel that clubs are using that to get larger fees than they would expect from other clubs......like in the case of nicky shorey" ?"

so west ham thinks its fair to offer £4 million for a current england international in the prime of his career ?

i think its west ham who are the ones taking the p**s if they think they can get him for as little as that.

As are Sporting Life :-

2225: We're still awaiting confirmation of Gary O'Neil's move to Middlesbrough while reports are suggesting Nolberto Solano will make the switch from Newcastle to West Ham before the midnight hour.

Reading fans will be relieved to hear Nicky Shorey will not become a Hammers players tonight and he looks set to remain with the Royals until at least the January transfer window opens for business.

Royals will fight to keep Shorey
NICK HAMMOND says he has not given up hope of convincing Nicky Shorey to pledge his long-term future to Reading, writes NICK IVE.

The England international has refused to sign an extension to his current contract, which runs out at the end of next season.

Royals turned down a “derisory“ £4million bid from West Ham in August for the left-back. But the Hammers may test Royals’ resolve again when the transfer window reopens in January.

However, Hammond insists Reading are under no pressure to sell their stars.

Royals’ director of football said: “I don’t anticipate anyone moving on if the move does not suit Reading Football Club.

“The most important thing is that Nicky Shorey performs for Reading. Have I given up on Nicky Shorey signing a new contract? No, I haven’t.â€

How long before Shorey starts spouting the "I have to think of my family" line when the time draws closer for him to jump ship to an over inflated salary only to sit on the bench/rot in the reserves acting as cover for Patrice Evra?

got a mate who's an STH at Brisbane Road.

He says all the goss at them vs millwall last night was that Orient are to get £980,000 in the January transfer window for the sale of Shorey to Wet Sham United.

1. would this be in the common knowledge?
2. what % sell-on do we owe LO? 10% - LOL, 25%

How long do sell-on clauses normally last for? Shorey's been with us for nearly seven years now (joined in early Feb 2001) - would a sell-on clause still be valid after that amount of time?

Sell on clauses are generally valid until the player is sold on.

I believe most sell-on clauses are valid for the length of the players contract. Since I can't believe we gave NS a 7 year contract, then the original one must've expired. On that basis I'm not sure why Orient would get anything at all.
