Stranded
Tony Le Mesmer So, how long before the whole Billericay Town thing goes spectacularly wrong?

Did a bit of Due Dil on the owner for the fun of it a few months back and it doesn't paint a pretty picture I can tell you. Looks like this is all just one big 'look at me'.

I have backed Dulwich Hamlet to win the Isthmian League at 20/1 on the basis that this will all likely end in tears a lot sooner than most people think. £30,000 a week wage bill :lol:

Going to be another Hornchurch isn't it?

Has any NL club actually succeeded going down this route?

Fleetwood, burton, forest green rovers and to a lesser extent Eastleigh spring to mind. But way more clubs burn out.

Were/are Burton really a bankrolled club in the same vein?

Rushden are an obvious example, but they went belly-up despite getting crowds that were always decent for the division they were in.

Dunno if forest green did seeing as they were in conference for 19 straight years.

You've missed the point I think. It's because they have a lot of money behind them they have been likened.

You have a well known affiliation with FGR through family/in laws so I guess that's why you are defending them against no attacks.

Da Bells Da Bells Any games today?

.... bit late but there's one been on NOW (BBC Alba :mrgreen: ) but other than Stourbridge 1-1'Maaaatlock' ...... which was on in the NPL this PM, presumably a 'groundsharer' - no.

No R&DSL fixtres posted up yet either - suspect the 'higher level' clubs are playing friendlies - fellah I often sit with/near at Scours La, managed to go to three matches :shock: before last weeks Highmoor FA Cup Tie - one up at Emmer Gn and two more at the IBIS club.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's the scores from yesterdays 'local' NL matches.....
NAT
Aldershot Town 6-0 Guiseley - five different g/scorers put the Sh!ts top with 3 wins from 3
Barrow 3-0 Woking
Maidenhead United 2-1 Hartlepool United att 1491
NATN
North Ferriby United 0-5 Brackley Town - Saints also top on 100% after 3 - ahead of other max haul clubs Darlo and Southport
NATS
Bath City 1-2 Chelmsford City
Braintree Town 2-0 Chippenham Town
Concord Rangers 2-2 Truro City
Gloucester City 2-2 Wealdstone
Hampton & Richmond Borough 1-1 Eastbourne Borough
Havant & Waterlooville 0-0 Dartford
Hungerford Town 0-2 Hemel Hempstead Town
Poole Town 2-3 East Thurrock United
St Albans City 3-1 Weston-super-Mare
Welling United 3-3 Bognor Regis Town
Whitehawk 0-3 Oxford City
ILP
Dulwich Hamlet 1-1 Staines Town
SLP
Basingstoke Town 1-3 Frome Town
Biggleswade Town 0-3 Chesham United
Slough Town 1-2 Kettering Town att 760
St Neots Town 0-1 Farnborough
SL1E
AFC Dunstable 4-0 Fleet Town
AFC Rushden & Diamonds 2-0 Hanwell Town
Arlesey Town 0-1 Marlow
Aylesbury United 1-4 Beaconsfield Town
Cambridge City 1-2 Ashford Town (Middx)
Chalfont St Peter 1-2 Thame United
Egham Town
0-3 Barton Rovers
Hartley Wintney 2-0 Northwood - 2 goals for Sam Argent but surprisingly low turnout (135) for their first outing at this level - tbf only really two clubs in the division this season with any kind of travelling support (AFC R&D and Camb City). Expect they might draw a few in when Fleet trundle up the A323 on Easter Monday 8)
Hayes & Yeading United 1-1 Aylesbury
Moneyfields 2-1 Kempston Rovers
Uxbridge 3-1 Bedford Town
SL1S&W
Bideford 1-0 Didcot Town
Kidlington 2-2 Yate Town
North Leigh 2-5 Bristol Manor Farm
Shortwood United 2-4 Winchester City
CCLP
AFC Hayes 2-0 Horley Town
Balham ` 1-3 Spelthorne Sports
Banstead Athletic 2-3 Abbey Rangers
Bedfont Sports 2-2 Knaphill
CB Hounslow United 4-2 Epsom & Ewell - big win for CBH at their new ground on Green Lane just S of the A4 down from M4 jn3
Chertsey Town 0-1 Guildford City
North Greenford United 1-1 Colliers Wood United
Redhill 1-2 Godalming Town
Sutton Common Rovers 1-3 Camberley Town
Walton & Hersham 1-1 Hanworth Villa
Westfield 5-0 Farnham Town
CCL1
AC London 3-2 Frimley Green
Badshot Lea
5-2 Ash United
Cobham 3-3 Cove
Eversley & California 3-2 FC Deportivo Galicia
Farleigh Rovers 3-1 Staines Lammas
Fleet Spurs 3-2 Raynes Park Vale
Kensington Borough 0-3 Bagshot
Sheerwater 2-5 Worcester Park
South Park Reserves 0-5 Chessington & Hook United
HELLP
Abingdon United 4-0 Ascot United - humbling result for the Yellamen after their big win in the Cup last w/e
Binfield 1-0 Oxford City Nomads
Brimscombe & Thrupp 0-1 Thatcham Town
Burnham 2-6 Highworth Town
Fairford Town 2-6 Flackwell Heath
Longlevens 4-3 Brackley Town Saints
Royal Wootton Bassett Town 1-3 Bracknell Town
Tuffley Rovers 1-0 Windsor - maybe RRs expectation of his clubs' potential was a tad premature - the Stag Lane youngsters are finding the Hellenic experience a bit tough - time will tell and it is early days. The top four are very much as I'd expected pre-season even after only 2 matches.
Wantage Town 1-2 Lydney Town
Woodley United 0-0 Highmoor Ibis - no crowd figure available yet - the 17-18 league site does seem a bit slower to catch up than before - wouldn't imagine too many turned up though, as neither side tend to pull in the punters at what isn't exactly the most pleasant venues.
HELL1E
AFC Aldermaston 2-4 Wokingham & Emmbrook
Didcot Town Reserves 3-2 Sandhurst Town
Milton United 3-2 Holyport
Penn & Tylers Green 6-0 Henley Town
Virginia Water 4-3 Chalfont Wasps
Wallingford Town AFC 1-2 Bicester Town
HELL1W
Headington Amateurs 0-3 Pewsey Vale
Letcombe 1-0 New College Swindon
WESSP
Alresford Town 2-5 Brockenhurst
Andover Town 3-1 Sholing
Petersfield Town 4-1 Amesbury Town
WESS1
Alton {EIGHT} 8-4 Ringwood Town
Hythe & Dibden 2-5 Tadley Calleva
Whitchurch United
2-2 Christchurch
(FRI) Andover New Street 1-0 Fawley
Was reading about truro fc today. 6 promotions in 5 years in the mid 2000s, including scoring 190 odd goals in one season :shock: with their top scorer Stuart yetton with 78 in one season :shock: :shock: :shock: they seem to have been a money bags side that fell on hard times and went bankrupt almost and have risen again through the league's
They only dropped one division when money ran out:
http://www.fchd.info/TRUROC.HTM
New owner is also an interesting character. Sacked manager on the coach back from the play off semi defeat in 15/16 as he thought football was too dull. Almost relegated last season and lots of mystery surrounding their ground move with links to Torquay
FOC, my expectations were a slow start - I predicted 13th half way through season rising to 8th by end of season as our young players mature.
Talent wise we will be right up there but when more than half the starting line up are teenagers it is unlikely you will get anywhere near to the top.
The manager has brought in some more experience now but the mix is not great - teenagers and mid 30s, plus Barry Hayles at mid 40s.
Anyone know if Brackley (nearest non-league to me) have signed new players?
I know about Tilney on loan from the Dons but wondered if there has been a big turnover
Certainly off to a flying start
...not sure - went up there to watch their '2nd string' in an Hellenic fixture and the programme was certainly of a higher standard, than you'd normally get at STEP05.
Can't say I read it too thoroughly though...... 8)
According to their own website they've added half-a-doz players to the 1st Team squad and results suggest they've settled in well.
Sutekh
Da Bells Da Bells Next weekend its one of Farnborough, Maidenhead, Woking or Bracknell.
Edging towards Bracknell in the FA Cup.
Should be a good game at Bracknell, be an achievement for them if they can turn Winchester over. Good week for preparation as well I think, no midweek game for Bracknell while Winch make bit of a trek up to Kidlington tomorrow
Winchester are at home to Kidlington tomorrow.
I'll form a better opinion tomorrow when I see my first game, but the 4-2 away win at Shortwood on Saturday was a decent start. Our pre-season friendlies were a mixed bunch, but we have now signed a new striker, Pat Cox, who got a hat-trick on his debut on Saturday, so things are looking OK.
I'm a bit more optimistic about the Bracknell game now. It should be a good game, though I can't go.
Winchester City have abandoned the traditional paper programme this season - it will be a downloadable pdf from now on.
Apparently the programme lost us money - I used to buy one, but average sales were around 40 per game, so it wasn't economic.
It seems we are not the first to do this, and I doubt we will be the last.
Does anyone care? Why did I throw away last season's last programme? I confess, I am not distraught.
On the plus side, the team sheet will also be downloadable before the game, which is handy for the first few games at least, when 7 of your starting line up are new to the club this season.
Just noted that the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup will allow qualifying Hellenic clubs to play in it this season. Is that all Hellenic clubs or just the Premier division sides. I presume that it's actually all qualifying clubs at step 5 not just Hellenic?
Yup - they've merged the Trophy & Cup competitions - actually they say more or less that on the website below but everyone has shuffled up one competion level. So this years Trophy is for STEP06 & 07 clubs & the Cup is all the sides from last season's Cup AND Trophy - which is all sides from STEP05 upwards . Currently Holmer Gn & Newport Pagnell are the only non-Hellenic sides in the Cup - this season.
http://www.footballinbracknell.co.uk/ne ... -binfield/
... and these are the eight clubs with byes
Ascot United First
Chesham United FC First
Hungerford Town FC First
Maidenhead United FC First
Marlow FC First
Milton Keynes Dons FC First
Slough Town FC First
Thatcham Town FC First
- ties to be completed by 24th Sept.
... will try a round up of a busy midweek tomorrow (Thu)
