pea This is key, we spent quite a lot of money bringing the likes of Mills, McAnuff, Rasiak, Howard, and Cummings as a result of the money we recieved and we still almost got relegated.

Did we? I seem to have forgotten that!

I think combined for those 5 players we spent £3.5M

Tricky bit is how much was actually spent. Mills was supposed to be a transfer to a potential value of £2.5m iirc. Think the other three came to about £1.6m, seem to remember two £500ks and two £300ks

Realistically it could be anywhere from about £2m to £4m spent in real terms.

It was the "almost got relegated bit" I was referring to.

Without labouring a much covered point, Rodgers was taking us down

Fair enough, I love it how the censor changes it to something nicer lol.

You're not going to make a lot of friends around here by claiming oxf*rd is "nice"...

swansea jack C*rdiff were only paying 20k a week. Decent gamble especially with the numbers of shirts he sold.

Only?!? I would say £20K a week is far too much for a team that had recently come out of administration to pay a player.

Didn't stop Pompey paying Kitson and Lawrence 20K per week just days after the 20p in the £ CVA had been agreed. Beggars belief.

I think worse was a few years back when Cardiff asked the PFA to step in and pay the players' wages because they couldn't afford to. Given this bit of breathing space, they then went and signed a couple of players on loan.

In what way? We weren't in the relegation places and after a long learning period we were looking better.

Rodgers made a number of mistakes but given time and backing (from the players as well as board) I think he'd have eventually come good.

I don't think he was taking us down but I also don't think he'd have got close to the form McDermott did for the second half of the season.

Within 2 weeks of signing Bellamy Cardiff said they had made £500,000 from the deal from shirt sales, new season tickets sold etc.

Sounds like a good deal thing for a cash strapped club

It was by no means certain we'd go down, but we were staring right into a big old relegation dog fight with piss poor morale and a manager making frequent mistakes and trying to play in a way the team couldn't manage.

Even his mini-revival was showing signs of having ended by the time he went.

If we'd have managed to stay up, I agree Rodgers probably would have come good. I just think the chances were too slim to gamble on.

Yeah I heard about this earlier. Hope whoever replaces him can do a better job (from a city point of view).

Not enough team spirit and work ethic. They had the talent, that's for damn sure.
