jollyjiminy Reading's problem is not Pearce's fault. People are most likely turning on him cos he's been playing, so he's a more obvious target than anyone else. People are turning on Fedders too, probably for the same reason. There will always be some mistakes at the back in any team.... and the amount we've been having are so few that we should never really have noticed. We've conceded 12 goals - Sheff United and Middleborough have each conceded 11. The problem is, we haven't been scoring any goals. We've scored two at home in 5 games. It puts a stupid amount of pressure on Pearce and turns him from hero to zero through no fault of his own. I think Ivar is a better player, but we've been very well covered by a young home grown player who needs the fans' support.

Its not Pearce's job to get us in a position where we can make chances and hit the target - that's management's job to create strategies to break through defencies and aquire players who can do it, and for attacking players to deliver.

Boro conceeded 5 in one game though, take that away and they've conceeded 6 in 8 games. slightly different picture.

I like Pearce, but I've never been convinced he'll be a top Champ defender. He's looked very good in a couple of games I've seen. The one he was rather less impressive the midfield had gone a bit AWOL and Peterborough were able to rampage unopposed down the flanks.

Not sure he's a player for the side whilst we're in such a state though. Especially when we have the experience of Ivar and teh quality of O'Dea available. He'll eventualy be a force in a partnership with Mills though. I think that's one for the future.

I know, but if you can't score you pull so much pressure back onto the defence it's ridiculous. Two goals at home is hopeless - its difficult to defend against that.... and its difficult to score less than that, though Barnsley have somehow managed it: they've scored one in four games. (Hmmmm. I wonder who that was against?).

More on the Pearce omission here:

"There's been a lot of pressure on Alex as a young captain".

Well which idiot gave him the captaincy in the first place then?

Pearce is the ONLY Reading player in the Top 100 Championship Players accoding to the latest Actim Stats.

A frightening statistic, oh for the days when we had most of the top 20!

I think it is hard to judge Mills so far, because he hasn't played much. So it beg's the question, why did Rodgers buy him in the first place?

The actim thing might have something to do with us scoring so rarely, conceeding quite regularly, winning only 1 game and using only 2 players in all league games so far this season. IIRC.

Bertrand & Fed btw.

Mills moves much more like a professional footballer than Pearce - the way he runs with his feet turned outwards just makes me cringe. That said - I'm not writing him off completely like some of you; however, I don't think he's quite good enough at the moment - watched him very closely during the Cardiff game and he was pulled all over the place by midget-boy and couldn't win a header vs Bolder-man. Still, he's very good on the floor .... but that's not quite good enough at the moment.

In Pearce's defence he won't come up against many quicker, livelier and better forwards than Chopra in this division. I thought he was ok against Chopra who didn't have many clear-cut chances on the night.

I think Pearce has done alright so far this season. It is easy to forget, that he is young and that he still has a fair bit to learn.

Good to read that Alex and Hal Robson-Kanu drove up to the game on Tuesday night after training in the morning. Something's brewing here - the bad start may actually have brought the group closer together. Not sure about those bust-up rumours...is there anything more substantial behind them?

Pearce: £2 million and you're not even in the team
Mills: oh yeah, you don't even make the bench
Pearce: you suck
Mills: according to some on hobnob Duberry was a better player than you
Pearce: Oh yeah, well according to some on hobnob Bodin was better than you
*smack smack smack*

No idea if it is more than HNA rumour mongering.

But if there was anything it's hardly unusual. You are always going to get odd disagreements in training. I had a aslight fall out with a colleague this morning, the company will survive it !!

He's actually the vice-captain, isn't he? Therefore he's the captain in Ivar's absence, isn't he?
