Old Man Andrews Go on Binfield!!! Would love to see them get to the first round proper but will never ever happen. They have about another 15 qualifying rounds to get through first and that just isn't happening.

Slight exaggeration. Just 3 rounds to go....

3 goes into 15 though.

Four Of Clubs ...

Unless im being deceived, there seems to be an unusually high number of 0-0 draws in NL this early season, especially down in the lower reaches on the pyramid. I think there were 4 in one weekend for Hellenic Prem sides. Normally its about 1 a month, if that. Might be down to the dry pitches?

Mainly due to the high levels of match fixing.

Two more management gone from Billericay Town. Probably did not like being told what to do by the egomaniac Tamplin at Hemel on Saturday (even though they won). Might be joining the previously sacked manager at Maidstone though of course. The circus rolls on!

Wasn't their last manager sacked by text 5 minutes before the end of a game earlier this season? Trust these two gentlemen didn't get the same treatment. The club is up for sale too.

Yep he was. Tamplin unable to find a buyer (not surprised with the money they are spending each week - 30k wages weekly at that level) so apparently looking for more new managers who he will no doubt tell what to do.

Apparently Tamplin appointed yet another manager today but has sacked him already! The circus is still performing in Billericay.

Hungerford v Torquay Saturday in a league fixture seems remarkable considering about 10 years ago Hungerford were in the Hellenic league and Torquay League 2. Wonder what new Torquay manager Gary Johnson will make of Bulpit Lane. Should be a decent crowd, despite their poor form the gulls fans travel in good numbers.

...as I've wangled a couple of hard-earned days off, here's the review a tad earlier than normal; for any considering a jaunt into NL
- plenty of exotic FA Vase ties about too..... :P

Saturday 15th September

FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round

103 Amersham Town v Hanworth Villa
104 Southall v Wembley @ Ashford T (Mx)
105 Brackley Town Saints v Crawley Green ++ pens no replay
Sun 16th 106 Burton Park Wanderers v F.C. Deportivo Galicia
107 Brimsdown v Bicester Town - that's if Town can find a side - they've scratched their last two fixtures .... :?
UPDATE/EDIT: - looked closer and they've disappeared altogether from the FullTime Hellenic One East table and fixture/results have been wiped :( . The official Hellenic league site now states they have withdrawn from Div One East with immediate effect yesterday PM. No further statement has been issued to date.
- is a great shame bearing in mind how they've fought long and hard to revive themselves, after (allegedly) being kicked off their previous site close to the town by the retail development consortium that owned all of the land around them. They have battled to try and get a ground back nearer the town and have been subsisting over at Ardley for a couple of years now - even finished runners-up last term to Virginia Water but I think they declined promotion.
I suspect this gives Brimsdown a bye to 3Q, as I doubt they'll be allowed to continue participation if they've resigned from their league, even if they have the means to.

119 Harefield United v Oxhey Jets
120 Easington Sports v Brimscombe & Thrupp
121 Baffins Milton Rovers v New College Swindon - could be ritual slaughter here - NCS shipping 6 goals per game and BMR sit a league higher - think my mate may pick this as his choice - for what's known in Anorak terminology as a 'vulture' option 8)

122 Royal Wootton Bassett Town v Bashley
Sun 16th 13:00 123 Thame Rangers v Farnham Town
124 Tadley Calleva v Chertsey Town - good prospects here - Curfews are top of CCLP and Tadley are doing OK in their first season up at STEP05

Egham Town v Hertford Town
Hanwell Town v Chipstead
Marlow v FC Romania
- saw Blues overcome the 'Ducks' from Aylesbury on Tue night in an FA Cup Replay at a drizzly Oak Tree Rd
- match taken to ET but Marlow were far more effective with the ball - lots of ex- and current- Reading League 'faces' in Marlow's line-up.
All time legend big Cliff Hercules up in the stand cheer-leading for Aylesbury :D :D - his son Max was playing for the visitors and scored a late equaliser in normal time.
- he engaged in some great good-natured banter with the local yoof who sat up behind the few 'Ducks' fans present - giving plenty of noisy support to counter theirs.
- there are nights when following NL, as a (slightly) neutral viewer reaps it's rewards:- on this occasion, I was certainly rooting for Marlow, so was more engaged than usual . Thoroughly enjoyed it  - have to say the Alfred Davis Ground is also one of my faves.

Molesey v Westfield
Tooting & Mitcham United v Ashford Town (Middx)
Uxbridge v Ware
Waltham Abbey v Hayes & Yeading United

CCLP
Sutton Common Rovers v Walton and Hersham
CCL1
Bagshot v Frimley Green @ Fleet Town FC

HELLP
Fairford Town v Ascot Utd - big win in midweek 4-2 at Ab Utd - saw 'Yellamen' take over top spot from Wantage but they have played 3 games more than the Freds - Town sit bottom on one point so they should stay top.

Lydney Town v Wantage Town
HELL1E
Chinnor v Wokingham & Emmbrook
Didcot Town Development v Wallingford Town
Milton United v Penn & Tylers Green
Challenge Cup
Windsor v North Leigh United - Windsor's fluctuating season took a dip at Holmer Gn on Tue night where they went down 3-1 - should ease past Nor Lye's 2nd string in the League Cup

- worthy of a mention: though it's in the normally unfeatured 'West' section: Last w/e Tytherington Rocks bt New College 4-1 to register their first league points since 5th April 2017 - so at the back-end of 16-17 season.
They failed to gain a single point in 17-18 season but were not relegated to County level - probably due to the fact that the Hellenic League are so desperate to hang on to their floodlit members - as it were ( :? )
- having tasted success they were promptly hammered 2-7 in their next match in the Subsidiary Cup at Almondsbury

On Tuesday night Windsor went 1 up with a marvellous individual goal from Dan Roberts (who is the best striker we’ve had for a good number of years). He then scored a 2nd which was disallowed for some unknown reason but got trampled on in the process and was in the back of the net just in front of me in a lot of distress. Suspicion was broken ankle at the time but after 6 minutes or so he was stretchered off and the bulletin is that he’s ok with “just” a ligament sprain. Should be back in a few weeks which is bloody good news.

Unfortunately, as always seems to happen in these circumstances, we conceded shortly after the game resumed.

We then had a player sent off for a 2nd yellow (he dived avoiding a challenge but didn’t appeal for a foul so the punishment seemed harsh to us.)

Holmer Green then went 2-1 up, and, as frustrations took hold we had a 2nd red card half way through the 2nd half and unsurprisingly Holmer bagged another.

We kept battling and Hugo Sobte (keeper) hit the bar with a free kick taken from just inside our own half but the game had changed so much after that event / injury / disallowed goal in the 1st half that we were never likely to get back into it after going behind.

The ref was the youngest I have ever seen in a Step 5 game and Mick Woodham was, to be blunt, fcuking unimpressed!

Coulda, shoulda, woulda been 3 points.....

C’est la vie.

Jefferson Louis has just left Farnborough his 37th club this must be some sort of record. Most of his clubs have been fairly local, don’t think I’ve seen him play in the flesh...yet. Do we have any other nomadic players with a large number of ex clubs.

Windsor 5-1 North Leigh Utd

Well.... that was Godawful.

North Leigh only had 8 players. Yes, they started with 8 and ended with 8. And their keeper (who was a right good laugh) got injured in the 1st half and really struggled from then on.

I suppose it could be said it’s a bit unsettling when you know it’s not much more than a knockabout but Windsor were pretty pathetic if I’m honest. A dreadful afternoon’s “entertainment”.

...will put the review together tomorrow/later today  - in some ways I witnessed a similarly terrible mis-match with the 'stundents' of New College Swindon - supposedly buoyed up by some of their squad returning for the start of term - going down [FOURTEEN] 14-1 at Baffins of the Wessex Premier in the Vase 2nd Round. I haven't been able to work out how NCS even got a place in the 2nd Round :? - must have been given a very fortuitous bye?
[Actually may be as the result of an FA Co£k Up - seems they allowed at least half a doz. clubs into the Vase this year without the necessary checks being carried out - e.g. minor shortfalls such as no floodlights and no groundshare arrangement to compensate ! - could be NCS benefited from this.

From memory I believe they allowed Old Woodstock Town, as was, to play at least two ties in one of the national competitions, before someone noticed they were no longer ground actually sharing at North Leigh. Reportedly OWT had declared this on their application and had been surprised to be included - so played the ties at Eynsham Pk - they were summarily expelled in retro from the following years' Vase. :|

Of note perhaps is the fate of Nor Lye's first team this PM; L 1-8 at home to Corby which, coupled with the short-handed appearance of their Reserve side, as described by RR above - would suggest all is not right at Eynsham Pk.

They had talked of voluntary demotion back to the Hellenic toward the end of last season - Shortwood did choose that option from the same division. Not sure it has helped them much anyway, as they are 0 from 5 in the Western Premier.

... has often been raised that it must be difficult to carry on at STEP04 from the basis of such a small set of village communities around North Leigh.
Rural Oxon is not a great area for NL football, looking at the recent & former woes of clubs such as the long-departed Witney, City Nomads (well Marston is almost rural) AFC Wallingford, Ab. Town & Carterton, who lead a wraith-like existence - and this season Kidlington who are pointless and shipping goals aplenty & Bicester who have folded altogether (again - also disappeared for about 5 yrs from 2011).

Leg 2 on my attempt at a game in every round of the FA Vase.

Malmesbury Victoria 3 -1 Virginia Water at The Flying Monk Ground.

A cracking step 6 ground set in a lovely small town. Worth a visit if you get the chance, I understand they are looking to move due to flooding issues.

Considered going to Baffins as well, but seeing a bunch of college kids totally out of their depth didn't seem right. Rather see a close fought game. I also had it in my head they would bottle it and not turn up. Seems I was nearly right!

Sutekh Saw Slough beat Oxford City 2-0. Thought Slough were the better side throughout and should have had a couple before Oxford had their captain sent off for a debatable professional foul just before half time.

Impressed with their Lee Togwell, James Dobson and Matty Edwards (?, the no. 9). Thought Oxford were a good well organised if a bit limited side destined for a lower mid table finish but was impressed with their keeper’s performance (and that of their no 10, Kyan ?Wiltshire?). Think Slough might be good enough for top 10 based on yesterday.

Unconvinced by the referee, wasn’t quite sure he called the red card right and thought Slough had a better shout for a penalty in the second half then the one they got early in the first half.

Youll be talking about a certain Mathew Stevens, a cracking striker who was on Readings books now at Peterborough on loan to Slough. He is way above his level here and will fancy them to go on and have a great season, he is only on loan till January though, scored a hattrick this weekend

Winchester City 2 - 3 Paulton

Paulton are becoming a bogey side for us. We should have been 4 up at half time, but threw away chances in front of goal, and were guilty of woeful defending at times. We really were the better side for much of the game. Bastard way to end our unbeaten start to the season. Still, lots of promising stuff, though I suspect our FA Cup "run" will come to an end at Merthyr next weekend.

There was an incident towards the end of the game, worthy of note. Tackle on the half way line. From behind the goal, we didn't even see a foul, and had no idea which way the ref had given it, till a Paulton player got a straight red. He was a sub who had only been on 10 mins or so. Anyway, Paulton player walks off, picks up the corner flag and hurls it off the pitch. He was lucky he didn't hit someone. Don't think the ref or lino saw it, so possibly nothing will come of it.

Saturday 15th September

FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round

103 Amersham Town 0-1 Hanworth Villa
104 Southall 5-0 Wembley
105 Brackley Town Saints 0-1 Crawley Green
Sun 16th 106 Burton Park Wanderers 0-5 F.C. Deportivo Galicia
- Got to this – made the extra effort on a Sun particularly as it meant a ‘half-tick’ – e.g. it’s where Kettering Town now play. Difficult to see how they fit in here; pretty small STEP05/06 ground augmented by a few extra stands and some fancy fencing.
- Additional Turnstiles too – the home side, who effectively have become Kettering’s lodgers having sold them the ground, are currently down at STEP06. FCDGL from the CCL1 also STEP06, were far too accomplished on the ball for the limited BPW and coasted to victory 2nd half.
- All tucked away south of Kettering in the town of Burton Latimer - famous as the home of Weetabix!

Bonzodog Jefferson Louis has just left Farnborough his 37th club this must be some sort of record. Most of his clubs have been fairly local, don’t think I’ve seen him play in the flesh...yet. Do we have any other nomadic players with a large number of ex clubs.
