Well I guess, by your definition, Brian McDermott is moronic. Because he addressed the issue of the player's effort, and their "switching it off", in the wake of yesterday's game.

Hey I am done with this. I said my peace and have no desire to beat this issue to death. I felt it was completely warranted to boo the team, based on the reasons I gave earlier on this thread, others disagree, and now it is time to move on to our next game against Coventry City, not see a replay of yesterday's effort, and hopefully punch our play-off ticket.

For a 50 year old you really are a bit daft aren't you. There is more than a slight difference between the manager identifying issues with the team and you booing them. I have never yet heard him boo the team - largely because he isn't moronic like those who do boo. (ps I am 55)

Yes, yes, yes...

I am crazy as a loon to expect highly paid adults, playing a child's game, to put maximum effort into their job. I am totally nucking futs to think that. What an unreasonable, unworthy fan I am expecting highly paid professionals to behave as such. How dare I think that our players should ever be criticized, they're our heroes and their reputations should never be impugned.

The thing which is most galling to me is the way they switched it off after a run of 8 wins in a row, with an automatic promotion on the line, with a chance to clinch a play-off birth on a day which a former player, who had the heart of a champion, fighting through a serious illness to continue playing until he could play no more, was honored. Yes, we should have all cheered them for "switching off" during such a game. Nice way to honor Chris, nice tribute.

I am with Compo's Hat regarding this thread...

I was mainly booing a disgraceful display from our captain, who bottled it against Henderson all game and who's shere laziness cost us the first goal.

i think its fair enough for you to expect 100%performances from every player in every game.
im pretty sure that since every player is human this never actually happens, and occasionally you get more than one player having an off day at the same time.
its oxf*rd all to do with effort.
we lost one goal out of nothing, panicked slightly and lost another, and then just couldnt find our way back into the game. not a single player could be criticised for effort as you seem to think.

and i have no idea what you think your booing will achieve in any way, apart from making you feel temporarily big and clever. it certainly isnt gouing to motivate the team to play better- more likely to sap them of their motivation.
imo feel free to write sternly worded letters to individual players detailing what is wrong with their game, and how to remedy it. but booing them achieves nothing positive, and makes you look like a nob.imo its just silly.

however- i think some of the insults and swearing youve recieved for it on this thread for expressing your reasons is possibly just as bad.

blueroyals What were we meant to do? clap the players for their half-assed shite performance?

there is another choice, one that may have just a positive motivational affect on the players, and none of the negative, and thats to neither clap, nor boo.

simply frown at them loudly.

and lol at thinking its your job to berate or motivate the team anyway.

Man Friday
brendywendy even then, its a bit gay to bo

I didn't realise that homosexuals tended to "boo" more than heterosexuals. Oh well, you learn something every day on this informed website.

the gays love a good boo.

i use gay in the widely used and generic way to describe something a little effeminate and wet, rather than in a full on reach around homosexuality way. and in no way does it represent a negative assessment of our gay brothers and sisters.

Are there effeminate hetrosexuals? I suppose there must be.

I appreciate the olive branch at the end of your post brendy, thanks. That is part of what got me really going on a thread which I really had very little interest in going on about. I hold no grudges and hope no one holds any with me. I love everyone here and only, like all of us, want to see the team do well. I want to put the memory of the last game out of my mind. I love this team, I love how they play the game 99% of the time and I am 1,000% positive that we won't see that out of them again for a VERY long time. But that is why I was so shocked and upset about what happened against Utd.

Would I have booed if I was there? I dunno because I am on the wrong side of the Atlantic when it comes to attending games. All I was saying is that I could understand how people could/did boo after it was over.

I am really looking forward to the next game. Hopefully there will be a large contingent of supporters, with tons of inflatables and chants, there and we clinch that play-off birth. A play-off birth that not too long ago looked like a long shot. All I have to say is C'MON URZZZZZZZZ!!!
