Nameless The players who can genuinely play wide are youngsters with less than a handful of appearances between them, and have both just come back from injury. To throw Stacey and Fosu in would be brave, and potentially exciting but I'd be worried what it would do to us defensively.
You're obviously right that the current lack of proper width is hurting us, but Williams and Quinn are still putting in major contributions. If we played Stacey and Fosu then potentially two of Alex, Williams and Quinn would be on the bench !!
Well two of them are surely going to be on the bench when McCleary and Hurtado are fit and ready.
We also have Obita as a wide option with Taylor at left back. If Stacey's been fit enough for the bench for four games he's fit enough to have at least made a 20 minute cameo to add width late on by now.
I'm not saying it's ideal, but give us a chance to win a game by having a crack at giving some service.
marlowuk We played very well today - except, of course, in the shooting department. We are light years better than we were last season under Clarke or Adkins. After 2 games we had had more shots on goal than any other championship club. I don't know if that still holds now but only Bolton had more shots than us today (21 while we had 20). So far as shots on our goal are concerned, after 4 games only Preston (6) have fewer than us (9). Our defence is solid and we are creating chances. We 'simply' need a goalscorer - preferably two!
Yeah, but how many of those many shots have looked anything like troubling the goal?
It's not like we're coming away from games having arrowed shot after shot fractionally wide or over. Nor like we're coming away from games saying the opposition keeper has had an outstanding day. Yeah there's been some good saves, but not huge numbers of great ones to stop us. In fact, people have scoffed at the number of shots recorded in the stats saying they can only remember a handful of decent chances in some games.
