5th May 1979 Port Vale away last game of the season to win the Div 4 (I think) title
won 3-0 Pitch invasions, fighting, away terrace being dismantled and thrown at on rushing Vale fans. All this in Snow in May!

October 1987 Chelsea 3 Reading 2 although we beat them 5-4 on aggregate.
For those that were there a very memorable game with Colin Gordon? scoring for us in the pizzing rain. I was in the Chelsea end with some Chelsea supporting mates and had to keep my hands firmly tucked away whilst the rain sodden bunch of away fans were going mental on that open terrace at Stamford Bridge.

Leeds away 18 November 1997 3-2 in Readings favour (Leeds where a top outfit at the time)
fan bloodytastic. The long midweek trip will linger long in the memory. I remember meeting Ark Royal who was living up north at the time, before moving overseas.

Others that spring to mind, League cup 1978 Rotheham away 2-2, Bristol City 3-3 game, Newport away for the record, Stockport on the Thursday night, Bournemouth away on the third attempt, Southampton away in the league cup after initially drawing 0-0 at EP. Also really enjoyed the Villa away game a few years back when we lost 1-0 in the cup.
Loads of others up and down this fine land, over 30 odd years of watching the Royals.

Whilst trying not to respond to my own post, I have just realised that most of my memorable away games involved the League cup in its various forms.

I missed the Dagenham A game but really enjoyed the Luton home one.
Kinda considering going to Stoke now!

When you consider the number of league games we play, there are very few that actually stand out for me.
The FA Cup is just about........ a big zilch...... I am sure there may have been one or two over the years, but I am really struggling to recall a classic away from home. Spurs away last season, Wealdstone away perhaps, hardly things that stick in my mind.

Certain away games are always guaranteed to be belting trips:

Brentford
Oxford
Bristol City
Swindon

As for the original post, don't worry Lux you missed nothing at St James's this year. The evening match the previous year was MUCH more fun.

The players love our support, singing and chanting no matter what the score line is, it really gives them a boost and can help players to a certian degree. You say when your loud you are really loud well thats when you are winning and to be honest it aint loud really when you only have one part of the stand singing. Whats the point of calling the East Stand the mad stand? You should call it the sad stand as it aint mad with thousands of people chating non stop. I don't want to watch Reading FC, I enjoy the non league football so much better.

I know it's wrong to speak ill of the dead and all that,but Blackpool away under Tommy Burns was probably the worst game I've ever been to.

High points for me include Plymouth (2nd game of 13 in a row) 1-0-a Senior tap in and Westwood saving a penalty
Bristol City in 95-mainly because it was my best drinking day out watching football
Norwich a couple of years later, 3-3 and the coldest match I've been to
and obviously 1-1 at Brentford

On that run 0f 13 straight wins the one at Brentford sticks out, we were well under the cosh for 90 minutes, we could hardly get the ball out of our own half. Then up popped super Trev with a sweet left shot in to the bottom corner in the last minute everyone went mental. We then heard on the way back that Trev was going to sign for Norwich the next day and our joy was short lived. But he turned them down and stayed a Royal, god bless ya Trev LEGEND.
