rfcjoe Has this deal actually been confirmed as going ahead?

The indication I received (hence my excitement at posting and not checking all news outlets) was that this is not a rumour but a done deal.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has struck back in the battle for Britain's best youngsters after missing out on Jordan Henderson and Phil Jones by landing Southampton's £12m-rated winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who will be confirmed as a Gunners player on 1 July.

Wenger is also believed to have made enquiries for Bolton and Blackburn defenders Gary Cahill and Chris Samba and Lille duo Gervinho and Eden Hazard.

Thats a start

Big four club Arsenal selling their best play to Premiership winners Man Utd :?: :!: :?:

If you supported the Gunners you would not be happy.

Big respect for Roberto Martinez, who is apparently staying with Wigan rather than taking over at 'Villa.

Ashley Young being reported as calling off his wedding this weekend so that he can sort out a deal to Man Utd.

If the picture below is anything to go by I would be calling it off permanently

That's the sort of response that'll make Lerner even keener to get him next time.

Can't help but like Martinez. He seems a really honest bloke and always concentrating on the job in hand. I can't see this flutter with the big(ger) time affecting his success at Wigan.

 Completely shafted us after saying he was going to stay with us. Then left for Wigwam, said he'd leave our players alone then decided to take the entire backroom staff, poach 2 of our best players and continue to covet others. Respect him for instilling the style we now have but there's a bitter taste from his departure.

Ipswich sign Chopra....What are Cardiff doing?

Chopra sold, Bothroyd leaves, Bellamy and Emmanuel-Thomas finish their loans....by my reckoning this leaves Jon Parkin as the only senior striker there....

Burke has gone to Birmingham aswell...

That's what happens when you spend outside of your means...2 seasons gambling to get out of the Championship and now they have to 'cut their cloth' and can't afford to offer some of the above players the wages they were on..simple as...

YateleyRoyal Phil Jones to Utd...no mention of a fee but its sure to be high

Rumoured to be about £16m

Only a good thing for the future of English centre backs - him and Smalling playing together will do wonders for our national side

Media now claiming the Manchester United deal is off as Liverpool have offered £22M

media also claiming liverpool will gazump arsenal in the race for alex chamberlain, though the boys dad believes the winger should follow theo walcott and join the gunners. personally one clubs looks to be going backwards and the other forwards. liverpool looks the more exciting of the two.

Long-term stability >>>>>>> Short-term excitement

The end of last season does not mean Arsenal and Liverpool are going in opposite directions. In fact it has finally woken Wenger up to the fact that the approach to the transfer market needs a little tweaking shall we say. And one suspects that can only be a good thing for their prospects for 2011/12.

But paying way over the odds for players who have barely established themselves in the game (as Liverpool appear to be doing) may not be the best way of spending £100m.
