RFC Players who proved you wrong

by readingbedding » 07 Mar 2011 11:40

After seeing Long shove some humble pie down some of the fans' throats over the past few months, I was wondering did any player you thought was good or bad, prove you wrong.

Personally I can only think of Archie Lovell.

Viewing this website, they'll be hundreds of 'knowledgeable' fans who have and will continue to be proved wrong

So who has proved you wrong?

Include managers too...ho ho ho.

Kebe - Thought he was lightweight and didn't have any interest.

Matejovsky - Thought he was gods gift to football and would tear the Championship apart when we got relegated.

I remember feeling disappointed to see we'd signed Andy Griffin on loan. What a player he's been for us.

Jimmy Quinn.
Thought he was past it having seen him stroll around at Bournemouth doing nothing.
What a revelation.

Scott Murray actually proved me right, as I think I was the only person on here even close to underwhelmed by his signing

Where do you start. Quinn, Morley, Brown, Little and Leigertwood off the top of my head.

Well props to you, I thought he'd be gr8.

I didn't want us to sign Goater at the time, which I prolly still stand by.

When we faced the squad being broken up after our playoff loss to Burnley my one consolation was that I (hoped I) would never again have to see Jimmy Kebe in a Reading shirt.

Just a massive  on that one. Couldn't have been more wrong.

I also concede that Shane Long has reached form this season that I didn't think he would ever manage.

Oh, and on the subject of the Burnley play-off game, I was convinced that Bikey would go on to have a great premiership career, so LOL at that one.

I was disgusted when we signed Keith Scott having seen him play against us a few weeks before.....

oh .... hang on..... I was proven RIGHT... an utter disgrace of a footballer.

Morley i thought would be useless but did well.
Griffin i assumed would be too old and slow but was just what we needed.

Asaba i was genuinely chuffed that we signed.... turned into a nightmare, then he went on to do well whereever he went after that. didn't help that we were very very bad at the time.

I think I'm an over-optimistic person (in terms of new signings for us at least!) as I always hope for the best for players. So I'm usually only disappointed.

Have to agree with the Meaker and Mateovsky calls though (although I still like Marek, but he simply wasn't cut out for English football). It still annoys me that we lost Osbourn and gained Meaker, jeez QPR must've seen us coming!

I guess the ones where I have no previous knowledge of the player are the closest to being proved wrong. Kitson and Andy Bernal are 2 that fall into this. Long also and Kebe definitely.

Proved wrong about in a good way: Quinn, Peter Grant, Adie Williams, Jerry Williams come to think of it, Murty....eventually

Proved wrong about in a  way: Asaba, Tommy Burns, Sir Les, Chris Casper

Proved wrong about, but for five glorious seconds only against Bradford City, and was otherwise completely spot on about: Keith Scott

Could never make my mind up about: Jimmy McIntyre

Long and Kebe in a good way. Bikey to an extent although still think he was massively over rated. Leigertwood as well i suppose although I never didn't rate him, at the time i didn't think RFC needed another central midfield player but he's turned out to be the best of the bunch.

I thought Goater would be a brilliant signing at the time, although he got 13/14 goals still wasn't as good as I thought he'd be, Cisse in a bad way. Having seen him dominate Lyon in a friendly I thought he'd be immense....ahh, Howard also I thought would be a decent signing, he's pony.

I told everybody I knew that Kerry Dixon was better than Lineker in the months leading up to the 86 World Cup.

I thought that Davies was better than Matejovsky (which I was right about) and was our most brilliant prospect (which was way wrong) after the early Rodgers matches
