Pitch size

by RichRed » 21 Aug 2012 11:06

I heard the pitch has narrowed in size - anyone aware if this is true...?

Premier League now requires a standardised size which we have to comply with. I would expect that our pitch was originally the max width possible so it's likely that the pitch had to be narrowed. Sorry that is not terribly conclusive!

I'd heard that too - but can't find anything on the web to confirm it's true, and it's the sort of thing that would definitely be reported on everywhere.

Good ol' Jonny Fordham recently confirmed that the pitch is the exact same size it was last year. All pitches now have to comply with UEFA regulations in terms of size, but we we're complying with that anyway.

Well there you go! I apologise for merely recycling inaccurate hearsay.

Alan pardew reduced the pitch size many years ago. he. reduced the width by about 2m I recall. He felt there was too much space out wide for our players.

Many thanks.

K.21. Unless otherwise permitted by the Board, in League Matches the length of the pitch shall be 105 metres and its breadth 68 metres.

So it's not what I was expecting and looking for, that a standard has just been introduced in the PL. It's that a standard was previously introduced and now we're there we have to meet it.

EDIT - According to the FL yearbook 2009/10, our pitch that year was 114.829 yards x 74.37 yards (that's exactly 105 metres x 68 metres) - so no change.

I believe the pitch was 102m X 70m last year so it has been narrowed and lengthened. IIRC someone mentioned on the 'Back from the game' thread that the goals looked as if they'd been moved back a bit. From the north stand it was clear that the pitch was narrower.

Is the pitch narrower or are the new bigger electronic ad boards just making it appear so since they are closer to the pitch?

I thought it looked a little longer - the lines seemed much closer to the edge of the run off area.

Is QPR's pitch within these rules?

Always gave the impression of being really tight.

I think this rule is a shame - reduces individuality.
