Rumour - Jordan Ayew

by UpNorth » 22 Aug 2012 07:58

Times says we have had a £3.5m offer accepted for striker Jordan Ayew from Marseille.

Six goals in sixty appearances does not sound that impressive.

Only 22, I have watched this player play a fair few times for Ghana. Lively, energetic - can go through the middle or out in the channels and wing. I can't recall what the end product is like but the game certainly doesn't pass him by.

Would be a really shrewd signing. Good on the ball, quick and isnt scared to take a man on.

Imagine Mcanuff, 8 or 9 years younger, and someone who actually contributes to a team performance instead of wandering around aimlessly struggling to beat someone like Andy Wilkinson. Add a lot more skill and desire and thats Ayew.

There's plenty about him on tinternet. Seems to be a player of high skill but not a prolific goalscorer by the looks of it.

Found this lettle gem which looks to be written by a Ghana follower. It caught my eye because of the provocative title but when you read down his main complaint seems to be that Ayew's shorts are worn too low on his body.

Looks handy....

However.....so many threads that have come to nothing this summer. Do suspect their is better value / ability to secure a signing for a newly promoted club like Reading towards the end of a transfer window.

You would think either:

- there is some substance to this
- it is merely the agent trying to put him in the shop window

Only ever seen him play on the wing, do we need more wingers? He'd be first choice if we signed him though

What's the Times like for rumours of this nature, any better than any other paper? Presuming the answer is not so, let's put this down to fanciful agents until there is something to cross reference it against or some corroboration from elsewhere.

Only slight corroboration I can see is that Marseille are after Gael Kakuta from Chelsea, but says they need to sell to fund the transfer....

Also, isn't he the son of Abide Pele or some other leading Ghanaian player?

looks a real good prospect, also similar to Zaha (as we were apparantly watching him)

Worth a punt at £3.5mil

Now now. Let's not write him off until we've had Snowball's analysis.

Have to smile inside that £3.5m on a player some of us have seen play once or twice for Ghana, and who has a poor goalscoring record, is considered 'worth a punt', whereas Jordan Rhodes, who we all know about, is seen as too much of a risk at £2.5m more.

Also tweeted, (I found it here) http://twitter.com/#!/search/windowatch?q=windowatch

I think that Gary Jacob is a sports columnist for The Times
so perhaps not much in the way of corroboration though.
