Reacting to chairman Tony Bloom saying Poyet told him in March he wanted to leave, the former Albion manager added: "It's very interesting. Tony Bloom needs to get over me. If it's true what he is saying, he is talking about before the Crystal Palace game (March 17). A week later I had an opportunity to leave for a Premiership club (Reading)."

Seems like we did talk to Poyet - I wonder what this "project" is that he talks about?

My friend from Uni is the performance analyst at Brighton. Speaking to him at the time he said there was a point where it had been agreed that Poyet would take over and Adkins would actually be taking over Brighton. Gus changed his mind though, despite the offer as he didn't want a relegation on his CV and thought it would be too much work to change the team to his style of play.

I assume project is just how they refer to managing a team. Our project this year is to get promoted with parachute payments and Russian billions. Its just a better situation than Brighton on paper.

On that famed March evening when Brian's departure was announced my first thought was "Adkins would be fantastic". My second was "anyone but Poyet". And can you imagine the poor little darlings in Sussex if we'd taken their manager and then their favourite left back?

It would have been quite amusing for us to have picked up Poyet with Adkins going to Brighternove - they can't stand him apparently, after some demeaning remark he is alleged to have made a couple of seasons ago. Thank goodness we ended up with Adkins!

Same here for the first option, was not fussed with Poyet either way.

I do remember that Poyet did offer himself to Reading when Coppell left, and most (not just HNA) laughed at it. Then it comes out that he rejected us 4 years later. Funny that.

personally I don't like Adkins, no playing pedigree unlike Poyet. Adkins is another yes man and perhaps when Poyet saw the budget he said no. At least Brighton offered more scope in terms of funds available and real backing in the transfer market. I think Adkins rubbed his hands and felt how lucky was he not having to go back to the ilk of Scunny (no disrespect to Scunny) on paper Reading are now a yo yo club and I guess he's on a good pay packet, perhaps another Terry the taxi moment, I'll reserve judgement on that call!
