Leroy Lita is set to make a big impression on the world in 2008. He has an obsession with the number EIGHT. And next year is his year to burst back into the headlines.
He wears the number 8 shirt, and at the end of every eighth game, he gives his boots away to someone in the crowd. So is this just light-hearted fun, or an ingrained part of his psychological make-up that will spur him to great things in the year 08?

Here's what he told the press following his double strike against Man City last season.
"Eight is more than a superstition," Lita replied. "I'm proper passionate about it. I don't feel right unless I stick to doing certain things. It comes natural to me now. It's weird."

In itself, perceiving significance in the number eight is nothing unusual. In China it is a centuries-old tradition, inspired by how its pronunciation in Cantonese sounds the same as the word for making money, and explaining why the Beijing Olympics are due to begin at 8pm on Aug 8, 2008.
