READING, BARNSLEY AND BLACKPOOL CHASING RANGERS MIDFIELDER

JUNE - 4 - 2009

The Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam has been courted by Blackpool for the last couple of weeks, but The Herald reports today that they have failed to meet Rangers £500,000 valuation of the player and he is now open to new offers.
They say that Reading and Barnsley have decided to show an interest after Adam’s great form while on-loan to Blackpool in the second half of last season.
Blackpool coach Ian Holloway is not too sure if Adam is the right man for his team anyway. Holloway said after Adam appeared at the Player-of-the-Year awards: “I understand he (Adam) didn’t really answer the question when asked at the Player of the Year awards and he was talking about other possible moves.
“We want people who want to be here and play for us and want to feel like supporters when they’re out there.”
Reading are now thought to be favourites, but they may have to wait and see who the new manager is first.

Don't need him. Plus he wasn't that good against us at their (Blackpool's) place.

Harper and Marek had decent deliveries on them from what I remember. Not necessarily as shots admittedly.

Saw him play against Kaunas last year in a champion’s league qualifier. I can't say that he stood out although the whole of the Rangers team that night were pretty dreadful. The ball broke down in midfield several times through some very poor passing; something in which he was culpable on occasion and that allowed Kaunas to start some very good counter attacks.

On the plus side he seemed quite energetic when Rangers didn't have the ball but I don't really think he's better than what we've got in midfield already.

Ground level through the wall? Not a high-percentage strategy.

Seems to be hotting up today on Newsnow. Rangers fans rate him fairly highly based on what I've read so it could be interesting to see what happens. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/spl/rangers/2009/06/15/reading-in-frame-to-land-charlie-adam-from-rangers-86908-21442024/

Talking of Scottish midfielders a year ago last April I went to a game Hearts v St Mirren and the player that impressed me most was Andy Dorman of St Mirren.
Since then I have seen him quite a few times on Setanta and during the last televised game the commentators spoke of the likelihood of him moving on.
With the financial problems of clubs in Scotland I would have thought that he could be on our radar.
Incidentally I did write to the club about the player and was told by both Coppell and McDermott that he is a player that they had received good reports of and were planning to take a look at him.

As I see it he is a kind of Marek but with more of an eye for a goal-his touch is excellent and earlier in life he did play for Wales u18s before spending time in USA both at college and then playing in their league.
He came back to Britain hoping to establish a career here and in the past 18 months has created a favourable impression North of the border.
Whether we need another ball-playing and creative midfielder I don't know but it looks, from the stories about Charlie Adam,we might be looking.
The one downside is the standard of Scottish football and our poor experience from the days of Tommy Burns-how good is anybody playing in the SPL?

I didnt know you get replies from the club if recommending transfers. I thought they would just ignore it!
