I think he was way too lenient on Parkin. Otherwise no complaints for me. However, the lino in front of the East Stand 2nd half was a complete oxf*rd. Got too many offsides wrong. Since when was level offside?

The current scheme of linesmen often having to wait to signal with the flag until a player is believed to be 'active' does not work and often leads to confusion. The referee has the discretion to acknowledge the linesman's decision and overrule it but, in practice, this so very rarely happens in modern football.

It only gets confusing if you don't understand the rule or would rather stand there appealing rather than playing to the whistle.

Some lino's deem active as movement toward the ball, others actually touching it. Yesterday's lino flagged Jobi (who was offside) for moving forward, when Long had picked up the ball from an onside position.

So what are the rules to being "active"?

the ref was again a poor one.......but the booking for our player of the year was fully merited, no player can tell the ref to come to him! long and tabb both tried to calm him down and pushed him towards the ref all to no avail...the kid is some player but needs to respect the officials.......we all had a right go at newcastles nolan the other week for walking away from the ref ,,,the stigs behaviour was not that of a reading player ,,,,,,,, i hope a word was had in his ear!

Pretty much this, although it should never have come to that in the first place had Sig been given the free kick for the clear trip from behind. Then a slightly mistimed challenge leads to a talking to?

Has to be said that he seemed to be a typical Championship ref giving all the easy free kicks, for example Shane Long on a central defender yet when Long was physically manhandled (which happened a lot) nothing was given. In a similar vein Jon Parkin got away with a hell of a lot and really should have been booked for persistent foul play (he gave away seven or eight similar free kicks all game). And when he was booked he repeatedly thrust his finger at the referee in anger. That, for me, is dissent that is up there with Sigurdsson's booking.

There were at least 2 Reading players told Sig to go to the referee. He got what he deserved for his unnecessary show of petulance. Hopefully BMcD will have had a word after the game in the sanctity of the dressing room.
