Two first half strikes from loan signing Chem Campbell laid the foundations of a comfortable home win for Reading, the second in four days at the Select Car Leasing stadium. Having failed to impress in his previous appearances the young Wolves loanee turned quickly in the box to tuck away a half chance when the ball fell to him following a run and cut back from Ehibhatiomhan. Buoyed by scoring his first Reading goal the nineteen-year-old added a second just before half time pouncing on a moment of hesitation by full back Williams on the edge of the box. Dispossessing the dithering Williams, Campbell took a deft touch to tee up a low strike inside the post. On the stroke of half time he might have added a third but his shot flew wide.

There was little to choose between the teams in terms of possession, but Reading looked far more threatening going forward. It was an open game with both sides producing flashes of good passing football but few chances. Garcia, coming into the side to replace Arbrefa at left back, had an outstanding first half. In the starting eleven for the first time, the sixteen-year- old had a more than competent game defensively. Going forward, he tormented the right side of Albion's defence. His touch, movement, weight of pass and ability to turn and change direction meant Albion had to resort to crude and clumsy challenges to contain him.

Albion enjoyed a lot of possession after the interval, but gaps began to appear in their defence as they pushed forward. Reading, as on Saturday, squandered good opportunities to score the crucial third goal to kill the game off through making the wrong decisions on and off the ball on the break. Wing, enjoying the freedom of getting forward, presented Smith with a golden opportunity to add a third goal after fifty-eight minutes, but he dragged his shot wide. The game was far from over and Button was forced to make a good full stretch save low to his right from Kalinauskas. As it turned out it, Smith's miss didn't matter in the end. Eight minutes from time he converted a much more difficult chance from Wing's near post corner with a glancing headed which flew in off the bar.

A little too late Albion pulled a goal back when Reading once again found themselves outnumbered out wide on the left, and with Garcia lying injured off the pitch, Godwin-Malife crossed for Orsi to finish from close range. Dean replaced Garcia for the last few minutes. It did not appear to be a serious injury.

There is too much doubt and uncertiantly about the ownership of the club to even begin to speculate on what Reading might achieve this season. What ever transpires, morale in the dressing room is clearly high at the moment, and young players are stepping in and proving their worth. Six points from two home games in four days leaves The Royals only two points outside the play-off places and six points about the drop zone.
