To be fair Wednesday are a much more experienced and settled squad and a good one too so was always going to be tough.

Talking points.
1 Handball - not sure how that works with the new rule, but saw a screen shot and definitely arm despite the ref's claim otherwise and clearly leaning in to the ball, but was by his side.
2 Miazga pen. Nailed on, totally sandwiched out of it and taken down.
3 Ref utter shit. Let Weds cynically foul again and again. Rino wiped out to prevent a break at least 4 or 5 times. 1 maybe 2 yellows. Lots of wrong decisions. Played on loads for them, made us take free kicks rather than have advantage. Seemed poor time management and had no control.
Our defence, which should have been solid looked a total shambles. Massive holes between Yiadom and Moore. Speaking of which, why have him and Miazga swapped sides?
Virginia - 5 not sure I could say he was directly at fault for any goal. But inspired no confidence at all.
Yiadom - 6 almost scored. Attacked quite well but shambolic defending at times.
Richards - 6 err ok, attacked less well than Yiadom but thought he defended better and had better link up with MM
Moore - 5 no organisation in defence. Constantly left us wide open on the right leaving massive open gaps between him marking no one and Yiadom who was frequently double and tripled up on.
Miazga - 6 bit better than Moore but also some appalling passing at times.
Rino - 6 some great, though mostly fouled when doing it, but one of his less good games, caught out of position ball watching at times and some poor passing.
Swift - 6 surprisingly solid in midfield and some good moments with few poor ones, but needs to play higher
Loader - 5 tidy, but everything up top for us was too slow and la king in penetration. He was part of that.
Barrow - 6 hot and cold, think he should have scored the handball rebound
Meite - 7 scored and put himself a out but couldn't really win a lot in the air and it bounced off him a bit.
Barrett - 6 tidy, but one of too many attacking players not creating enough
Adam - 6 looked class when he came on playing high up. Then inexplicably dropped back and started spraying Hollywood balls into touch or to Wednesday.
Olise - 7 looks a cut above. Finds space, turns forward, demands the ball and plays at a high tempo
Nova - barely had a touch and we decided to let Weds play in our left back position once he was on.
The goal kicks are shameful. Put your central defence and midfield in or on the edge of your box pass it short until you lose it or hoof it forward to the big hole where your midfield should be.
Midfield plays too deep and we have no focal point. There's nothing in the middle of the pitch for us in their half of the middle third. Unless everyone comes deep and then we have no one in their defensive third.
Despite that big gripe, this team has something about it. But we were really naive and disorganised today.
Barry Bannon shit all over us.

I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion the keeper was shite. There is nothing Virginia could have done with the goals and he saved what he could.
Though he flapped at the second and I knew where the third was going several seconds before it went there, so he should have been able to get there, even to the corner.

Could have saved the 1st goal.
2nd goal appeared straight at him.
Looked like he was down slowly for the 3rd goal, and not his fault but he's too short to save anything heading towards the corners.

Worrying performance from the keeper, the second in particular went straight through him.
Yakou won everything in the air, and Barrow went from the sublime to the ridiculous as he usually does.
As soon as the ref was announced earlier this week I knew we were in trouble. It’s hard to not sound bitter when you blame the ref after a loss, but he was so poor as far as we were concerned. Repeatedly let cynical fouls go without a yellow, the obvious handball and foul in the box. A frustrating day.
Club 1871 atmosphere was superb, and you can add Sheff Wed to the growing list of normally noisy fans who were completely silent today despite the win.

1st goal:

As I anticipated that was a poor result against an average team and you have to say Wednesday deserved it. They took their chances and played as a team. We looked lost, no plan, and just battled. When we finally attacked we should have scored, it looked like a handball off the line but that was really our only chance until we scored.
Moore was at fault for their first, I'm not sure where the marking was for their second.
Of the team the only stand out poor performance was Loader, utterly useless and only seemed to pass backwards. The others were just average, I dont think anyone played particularly well. I was hoping Adam would add something but he kept overhitting his passes.
You can blame the ref for letting them get away repeatedly with fouls, every time we beat a man they cynically pulled us back yet no yellow cards were forthcoming. But you have to play what's in front of you and we simply had no ideas.
Again you wonder what we did in preseason. I don't think Gomes started our best team I don't expect Loader to start next week.

Yeah, that is categorically poor.
In fact everything about that goal was poor. Rino passing to them, Yiadom and Rino both stepping up, Moore slow to cover and then falls over himself failing to block their winger only for the keeper to let the shot through him.

Virginia 6 - didn’t do anything wrong, poor few kicks aside
Yiadom 4 - the free ride he gets from most is staggering. Strange
Moore 5 - can’t play a possession game but that was obvious three years ago, looked a bit shaky and at fault for the first goal
Miazga 5 - poor, needed a pre season, Morrison had to play
Richards 6 - naive at times but was the pick of the back four
Swift 8 - MOTM by a mile, dictated play really well and was wrongly subbed off
Rino 4 - played well first 20, horrible performance after his mistake for their goal
Loader 3 - he’s like the kid on the playground who thinks he’s good. Guess what, you’re light years away from being good enough. Abject
Barrett 5 - nothing performance really but good cross for the goal
Meite 5 - terrible footballer, so so limited. He’s the only one that can put the ball in the net though so it’s a difficult one
Barrow 4 - his pace is an asset but he was shocking today. He’s a useful player to have around but like Meite, he’s so poor at the real basics
Adam 3 - why Gomes, why? Must have kicked the ball off the pitch 10 times. It’s a shame because he’s clearly got an intelligent mind at times. But he’s too slow and he tries the Hollywood all the time. Appaled that Baldock didn’t get on ahead of him
Olise 7 - really good, great ball for the red card
Nova N/A - not enough time, but considering Gomes doesn’t like strikers, I’m not surprised
Gomes 3 - difficult to rate any higher when you choose 0 strikers. Stam was slaughtered for this, Gomes isn’t. Really strange selective criticisms from our fans once again. Nova or Baldock simply have to play upfront
Bannan 10 - simply stunning, such a good player
Wednesday - a good Championship team. They keep it simple, they dictate possession well with Bannan and they have a quality striker up top. The difference between Fletcher and Meite/Loader/Barrow or whoever was up front was staggering. Even Joao was streets ahead. Harris was also very good. Will be up there after that I think
I did say a few weeks ago this team is too small and will get bullied from set pieces etc...the amount of headers we win or the amount of balls we hold up are minimal compared to the opposition and it’s been a recurring theme for a while now (apart from Yann)

The keeper looks like a little schoolboy. No reach, not commanding, crap playing it out. Ho hum
That said, I actually enjoyed it. Hopefully he'll settle on a better selecting and formation, as that didn't work at all today.
Oh and ALOL at all the reading fans spanking it off on twitter saying we have the best defence. They may be individually good but just like last season, we'll rarely keep a clean sheet

Miazga did all the organising and encouraging...., he was the only shinning light is a sea of shite.
Keeper seemed slow again getting down for the third, noticed the same against Chelsea. Jakkola and Martinez would have got that.
Olise I don't know what to make of, but I hope he improves.
Loader, out of position but still not a championship player in my opinion.
And then we come to Swift.......what an utter show pony....pointless cross field balls and playing passes that clearly arnt on....and as for his tackling, the least said the better.
If I was Charlie Adam I'd have punched his lights out when he took the ball and demanded to take that free kick.
If was so blindingly obvious that Adam was the choice to take it but no, that bloody show pony again showed why he is so bloody hopeless at taking free kicks....
Yiadom I can forgive, we know how good he is.
Barrett did OK, didn't deserve to come off.
Rinomohta was a terrible disappointment, hopefully he can get over today, again we know how good he is.
Barrow, I expected better and there were glimpses.
Meite , good goal but for a big bloke he bloody lightweight. Spent too long on his arse.
As a team today.....marks out of 10.....3

We're a team with a fair sprinkling of young players, and one or two others known for being lightweight. It doesn't take a tactical genius to realise that being a bit physical and trying to pressure them into mistakes is probably going to get rewards.
Gomes has a limited squad. We stayed up last year because we made five loan signings who made a difference. With four of those five elsewhere, the gaps are all too obvious again. The players probably have a better attitude that last year (under Clement), but that probably won't be enough.
