First half I thought we played pretty well, a lot of possession but no real chances. We pretty well took the only chance we had and clung on. Some typically dire play in the second half where we are suddenly incapable of passing at all. All the play seemed to be at the other end of the pitch and there was little to really get excited about except the goal.

We won because we were marginally less shit that Huddersfield who were tidy but had zero threat up front. They hit the post and could of got onto the end of a few crosses, but McCarthy was pretty untroubled.

Player wise no one really stood out except Pog who again worked his socks off and was a handful even if he created nothing. Pearce continues to annoy me with his 90% hit rate of finding the opposition with his headers or hoofing it into touch when under no pressure, Gorkss looking either steady or like a headless chicken, Drente great skill but incapable of running into space, etc.

Poor performance, but 3 points. How many times do we have to say that this season?

Drenthe was awful, seriously shocking. Pog was the best player but needs to start chasing balls down. McCarthy excellent but distribution was terrible. Obita and Sharp decent as well. Hudders should have smashed us, but their finishing was appalling. Awful support, Hudders fans one of the better home supports this year. Edit: Oh, and that Akpan shot, highlight of the game for comedy reasons.

More points on the board but for some reason our fans once again looking to explain it on poor opposition and luck. Same luck that won us the title two seasons ago?

Makes me think Reading fans have esteem issues. Will we ever win a game through stopping the opposition scoring and scoring goals ourselves? Or are we the luckiest team alive who's ever point is a fluke?

Seriously, what type of football or performance will ever be good enough to get a nod of appreciation from our fans? Its like we turn up expecting to play like Barca.

We are Reading. In the championship. Playing Huddersfield. The football you see is the football this league produces. Until we splurge money on better players and are pushed by better opposition, I'm afraid you are all going to have to accept second-rate football from a second-rate team in a second-rate league. Reality bites.

While visiting keeper Alex McCarthy was busy and also outstanding at times, Reading never looked too flustered in defence as Town surged forward in the opening stages.

And in possession Reading, missing seven key players through injury or suspension but with a team still boasting plenty of players with Premier League experience, counter-attacked when the space was available or took the momentum away from Town by retaining possession with some comfort.

And in the end a Pavel Pogrebnyak raid down the left that led to Billy Sharp, on loan from Southampton since September, heading in his second goal in three starts on 32 minutes – which proved enough to secure the points for the Royals.

Huddersfield Town manager Mark Robins believes Reading striker Billy Sharp was the only difference between the two teams on Saturday.

The home side, without 12-goal top scorer James Vaughan with an ankle injury, had no one to finish off the host of chances they created. But Reading took all three points thanks to on-loan Sharp’s second goal in three starts.

Robins said: "I am frustrated because we have done everything except the bit that Billy Sharp does. That’s what strikers get paid for and that’s why they get the plaudits they do."

Robins claimed his side should have had two penalties and insisted Huddersfield should have won comfortably. "Reading would not have been able to complain if we had run away with that game," he said.

Reading manager Nigel Adkins said: "Billy Sharp scored the only goal but we could have scored three or four. We were very offensive in our mindset, we saw the game out and won quite comfortably.”
