report

A late fight back was no where near enough as Reading slumped to another Premiership defeat. Kitson's late goal, from Nicky Shorey's free kick, was only Reading's third league goal of the season and it came when the home side had already wrapped up the win after looking the better side throughout. Despite a bright start, Reading struggled to compete against a lively Sunderland side and were lacking throughout. The Royals enjoyed plenty of the ball early on but created little up front, while Sunderland looked far more dangerous forcing Hahnemann into a couple of early saves.
On the half hour mark an impressive solo goal from Jones put Sunderland ahead. The Reading defence was turned inside out and the powerful shot gave Hahnemann no chance. It could have been more before the break but the Royals were spared by some poor finishing. After the break, there was no let up as Sunderland immediately doubled their lead after some disappointing Reading defender allowed Jones to cross for a simple finish in the centre. Reading had a penalty appeal turned down before Kitson's consolation. |
