report
|
Reading recorded their first away victory in the Premiership after a blistering first half performance against Sheffield United. The Royals took the home side to pieces, to go two goals up at half time, but it could have been even more after an excellent opening forty five minutes. Reading were ahead after just sixteen seconds as Convey took the ball forward right from the kick-off - his ball over the top put Kevin Doyle clean through. Doyle was faced with just the keeper to beat and made no mistake making it 1-0 with his second goal of the season. The Royals didn't take their foot off the pedal with Ki-Hyeon seeing a shot saved by the United keeper and James Harper nearly making it two after his shot beat the goalkeeper but not the post. It was just a case of who would score the second after Sidwell nearly got on the score sheet. Ki-Hyeon did make it 2-0 with 25 minutes on the clock, when he picked up Lita's ball to twist and turn before burying it.

FANS' POST MATCH OPINION
|
A well deserved away win today. Reading were unlucky not to be three up before the home side pulled one back (Marcus at fault at his near post for that I feel), and a more defensive approach was adopted. But apart from Marcus redeeming himself with a smart save near the end, Sheffield United despite their pressure and possession couldn't really trouble a resolute and strong defensive display from Reading. The last two games have given us the platform we needed for the tough encounters to come in the next few weeks. Well done to the team! COME ON!
Fantastic, no sooner had we started to sit down when boof Doyley smashes the ball into the net after 16 seconds and we are one up! What made it so sweet was pre match we'd been getting lots of stick from the fat Blades fans to our left and one could not think of a better way to shut them up so quickly. The first half performance from Reading was simply outstanding it would seem that Bramall Lane does seem to bring the best out of us. We could easily have been four up at half time it was that good. The expected onslaught didn't really materialise in the second half apart from ten minutes after they had scored thanks to poor keeping by Marcus on the near post. While on that theme, he should spend every minute of training this week practising his goal kicks, every bloody one goes out of touch! Again it's the team that deserve the plaudits, the effort and the work rate is something for us all to be so proud of. Of course we are learning and we will have severe tests to come but it's as a team we excel, no superstars, no prima donnas, no foreign mercenaries, simply a great team. Lita is yet to convince me he's up to this level as is Convey, but on the other hand Doyle, Sidwell, Harper, Shorey, Icemen both of them, Murty and superman Sonko seem to be revelling on the top stage and will only get better. Any away win in the Premiership is a bonus, so with three points in the bag, I look on that as a point from the mighty three home games coming up against Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea, so we've nothing to lose and who knows what will happen. Can anybody remember looking forward to a game so much as Man U next week, I still can't believe we're in the Premiership and too be sitting sixth! Happy days indeed... UUURRZZZ
