The weather was dull and wet. The football on display matched the weather. Luton spent most of the afternoon playing the offside trap. The ref seemed to like it so stopped play as often as possible to reward pointless free kicks. Some were marginal some weren't. We didn't ever seem to get into the game. Luton came for the point and we looked as though that would suit us too. It was such a boring game! Its typical because it was the first time ever I had got my girlfriend to come to a game with me and then she sees this. Its going to be hard to get her to come again. The team were just strolling around the pitch. Too much chrimble pud and hangovers I reckon. Remind me to sit in watch TV, and down some beer next boxing day!

Each side got the point they deserved in a match that failed to live up to the potential of two footballing sides. Gary Waddock got the Luton plaudits for a performance full of solid tackling and the ability to play short passes out of defence and set up attacking opportunities. Unfortunately Preece was out of touch after his ankle injury and the front two were left too often without any decent service. The crowds frustration with the game spilled over to 'boring, boring Luton' chants but Oakes arrived to liven up the last 20 minutes. In place of the solid Allen he was one of the few players prepared to have a run at defenders and was unlucky not to score. First a free-kick routine saw his shot charged down and then the Reading keeper was forced to make the save of the match from a thundering 20-yard drive. At the other end Reading only had two real chances - a 1-2 put Osburn away but Juergen was smartly out to dive at his feet and in the last minute a cross shot hit the outside of the far post.
