Puscas And Meite Departures Confirmed

21 June 2023
By Hob Nob Anyone?

The club have confirmed that Yakou Meite will be leaving the club after failing to agree a new contract to keep him at Reading. It is no surprise with the club having limited budget for new contracts and the ability to only offer League One football. Meite spent seven seasons at Reading making 156 league appearances and scoring 47 goals in all competitions. Despite suffering from injury he continued to bounce back and remained a strong option coming off the bench. His final Reading game saw him score his club's only goal in a 1-1 draw with Wigan in April. Meite is a hugely popular player who will be wished very well wherever he continues his career.

Meite's departure follows the confirmation that striker George Puscas will sign a permanent contract with Genoa after spending time at the club on loan. Puscas, who was never expected to return to Reading moves to Genoa for an "undisclosed fee which will now be payable to the club in instalments". Puscas joined Reading in August 2019 but fell out of favour after only managing two goals throughout the 2021/2022 season, and went out of loan to Genoa for all of last season.

I can't say I'm surprised. He's been a good servant to us over the years and was a very good player on his day. Been held back significantly by injuries in the last couple of seasons and his wages were high so moving on is probably best for all parties.

Cracking player on his day and provided some great memories.

Never going to re-sign and injuries have massively restricted him last 2 years but wish him all the best and will keep an eye on what he does next

Best of luck Yaks

Side note: 2 bits of news on the official today, are things finally coming back to life?

Tbf, I was surprised we attempted to extend his contract, so can't say I expected a positive outcome from the negotiations.

Best of luck to Meite, hope he gets a good move this summer.

Love Yak, hope he's successful wherever he ends up.

Showed what can be done when you work hard to overcome a difficult start.

All of the above and another big wage gone.

Feels like the end of a great friendship. He's one of the few high points on what's been a miserable 6 years for the football club.

Hope he gets a decent club and good luck to him.

Why's his wage matter? He's one of the few who actually deserved his wage and worked hard.

So long Yaks. One of the few players in the last 5 years or so who can hold his head up high and say he always gave his all.

Can't blame him for opting to leave this basket case club.

Genuinely one of the biggest highlights of the last 5 years.

Good song. Exciting player who often delivered. Always had a big smile on his face. Genuine hard worker. Total tank.

Farewell sweet prince.

I have always loved Meite but I still remember the outrage when he was given a long contract. Sadly, he’s never been the same since his last major injury. I hope he can stay healthy for his new club.
