Dean Wilkins Appointed Coach

Former Brighton manager Dean Wilkins has been appointed as first team coach, as Reading FC form a strong management team ready for life in the Championship. Reading now have in place the management team that was so successful at Southampton before their dismissals. Wilkins was the former first team coach at Brighton before taking over as first team manager. He spent two seasons in charge at Brighton between 2006 and 2008 picking up 39 wins, 24 draws and 39 defeats in his 102 games in charge.
Wilkins has a strange link with former Reading FC managers after taking charge of Brighton when Mark McGhee was given the boot in September 2006. His Brighton side struggled in his first season in charge but next term Brighton fared much better. Despite a 7th place finish Wilkins was replaced and moved to Southampton. At Southampton he again found himself in charge of the first team, moving from assistant manager to caretaker manager, when ex-Reading boss Alan Pardew was dismissed. His three games in charge of the Saints saw three straight defeats and he wasn't offered the full job as current Reading manager Nigel Adkins was appointed manager. Wilkins enjoyed plenty of success working with Adkins until he departed at the same time as Adkins at the start of 2013.
