Mariappa Joins Kebe At Palace

Adrian Mariappa has joined Jimmy Kebe at Crystal Palace as the two players complete moves to the Premier League club. Both players were widely rumoured to be leaving the club this week and Mariappa's transfer was confirmed a day after the departure of Kebe. While neither transfer is a shock, it's a shame to see two talented players leave the side. Kebe's move followed quickly after his refusal to play in last week's League Cup match - clearly his mind was on a move back to the top tier of English football.
Although Mariappa's single appearance for the Royals this season was the shock 0-6 away defeat at Peterborough in the League Cup, he had a big impact last season. Despite the Royals getting relegated, Mariappa was voted runner up in the player of the season awards - only just behind Alex McCarthy. After signing from Watford for 2.5 million pounds in the Summer of 2012 he featured in most of the games and looked set to play a part this season but has found his chances limited. The transfer fee for his move to Palace is undisclosed but is expected to be less than Reading paid for his services just over a year ago. Jimmy Kebe's transfer fee is also not formally known as Palace look to survive with players experienced in relegation in the Premier League. Meanwhile, it's all very quiet on news of incoming transfers to the Madejski Stadium as the transfer window draws to a close this evening.
