Frustration As Charlton Take Win

Reading's inconsistency continued this weekend as they failed to follow up on two good home wins. After beating both Blackpool and Rotherham 3-0 in consecutive games Reading seemed set to give their season a boost with the visit of Charlton. However it was Charlton that collected the full three points thanks to a single goal against the run of play just before the half time break. Reading had plenty of the ball and plenty of chances but could find no reply as Charlton held out and frustrated the Royals.
There were chances throughout the match for Reading to score but while Charlton made the most of their only real chance of the first half, Reading squandered theirs. Murray went closest putting his header just wide of the target. Norwood found his effort crash against the woodwork. In the second half Hector really should have equalised for Reading but failed to score with a simple effort from an Obita corner. However it was Obita that was singled out for being wasteful with a serious of poor crosses that limited Reading's opportunities despite dominating possession.
Reading were continually frustrated by an impressive Charlton defensive performance. Late on Adkins threw on Blackman, Robson Kanu and Pogrebnyak but remained short of ideas.
The statistics showed Reading had 12 corners to Charlton's zero - but Reading failed to produce the goals. It was a classic 0-1 away victory for Charlton, and the defeat pushes the Royals down to 14th in the Championship.
