McDermott Gets Shock Sacking After Five Months
27 May 2016
By Hob Nob Anyone?
Brian McDermott has, again, been bizarrely sacked as manager of Reading Football Club. In a surprise short statement this morning, that really come from nowhere, the club confirmed that McDermott had been "relieved of his duties". Reading seem to be a club in turmoil, dispensing of Brian's services after such a short space of time when he had been given no opportunity to make an impression after his return to the club. Brian McDermott will remain a well respected man repeatedly treated incredibly poorly by Reading Football Club.
McDermott returned to Reading after a very successful spell between 2009 and 2013 that saw him guide the Royals into the Premier League against the odds. After Reading hit a poor run of form at the end of last year McDermott made a welcome return. McDermott gave up a long term scouting role at Arsenal to take on a clearly risky employment with the Royals - something he will probably regret unless he is able to now make a return to the Gunners.
He was unable to turn our fortunes around, since arriving in December 2015, and his record for his second stint in charge will read 13 defeats, 8 draws, and just 9 victories from his 30 matches in charge. Reading finished the season in very poor form, clocking up just a single league point from their last seven fixtures.
After the recent departure of director of football Nicky Hammond, another long term Reading man, the Royals have a serious lack of stable structure. Our Thai owners clearly have no concept of either loyalty or the correct expectations given the level of investment made in permanent playing staff over recent seasons.
The club statement in full:
After careful consideration, the board of Reading Football Club have taken the difficult decision to relieve Manager Brian McDermott of his duties.
We would like to sincerely thank Brian for all his hard work since his return to the club in December 2015 and wish him well in his future career.
The board of Reading Football Club will now undertake a rigorous recruitment process over the next few weeks to identify the right man to lead this club forward and into the 2016-17 season. The club will make a further announcement to our supporters in due course.

Whatever your thoughts on Brian's abilities, this actions shows Reading FC is no longer a football club to admire for at's attitude and approach.
IF and it is a big IF they get a lot of success then many fans will forgive and forget and will be happy, And yes i know its football.
But at the moment I cant help but think that today a part of the club died.

What the hell is the point if getting rid of BM after only a few months esecially as money is supposedly next to non existent so you have yet another payout to make.
Un - ****** - believable, words completely fail me.
Are we going to appoint Tevreden now as manager?
I can only presume that Denis Bergkamp or Jaap Stam are waiting in the wings to take immediate control otherwise we're going to have another wasted summer
Way to go Reading, how to make things as difficult as possible for youselves.

He was the wrong man for the Job when appointed and that is not his fault but that of the owners or whoever appointed him. Deffo should be given another role in the club somewhere, academy or scouting but i suspect it wont happen.

Does anyone truly feel that we are going to have a successful season next year with Brian at the helm? Probably not. But at least now there may be some chance.

Still, he's gone. Hope the new manager does better and the club can start facing in the right direction after several years of (relative) failure.

Although I agree about Brian and how low this is, the club won't die. Managers come and go, and fortunes rise and fall. Sooner or later--looks like being later--we will start winning again and will enjoy it same as ever.
I realise the club itself wont die and that's not what I said, You're right IF we become succesful then many will forgive and forget. But the values and approach that I have admired are already dead and buried.
On a lighter note: The owners were obviously waiting for me to renew mine and my sons season tickets which I did yesterday, before breaking the news.

I predict Madejski will jump ship any time now.
