Reading Look To Build Run Against Huddersfield
23 September 2016
By Hob Nob Anyone?
Huddersfield Town travel to Reading this weekend hoping to retain or extend their position at the top of the table. Huddersfield have set the early pace in the Championship this season and are two points clear at the top with eight games played. The Terriers last league outing was a 2-1 home win over QPR - but they were beaten at Brighton ten days ago as they picked up their first league defeat of the season. In contrast the Royals were victorious at Brighton midweek in the League Cup to set up a fourth round away tie at Arsenal.
Reading are seven places behind Huddersfield in the table, but are on a run of 7 games unbeaten in all competitions. That run has included five victories as Reading continue to put an average start to the season behind them and the form continues to pick up. The last two victories have come at a price however, with the Royals playing the entire second half of both games with ten men after Garath McCleary and Tyler Blackett picked up first half red cards in our previous two games. Both of those players will be suspended for the visit of Huddersfield. Their absense shouldn't give manager Jaap Stam too much of a headache as he has successfully shuffled his squad around for League Cup success and has plenty of possibilities to pick from. Deniss Rakels and Yakou Meite are still out injured.
Reading certainly look a different team this season with their new breed of possession football. The patience is starting to pay off with results starting to go our way. After some reasonably low attendances so far this season, things could be up in both the league table and fans through the turnstiles this weekend. Fans will be hoping for some home goals though after our last home fixture against Birmingham City ended goalless.

Hopefully VDB will be fit, if he is I'd ease him back in second half.

Huddersfield fans getting a bit carried away with their start. I think we'll bring them down to earth with a bump on Saturday.
Hendo
Cant really argue with that 11 with the team playing as they are at the moment/suspensions.
The only thing I will say is that I would expect Williams to come into the team instead of Joey, in light of his recent injury issues, with Joey then getting some minutes at the end with a view to him starting on Tuesday night v Brentford.
Ian Royal
I just wouldn't start him. For me we should be looking at this for positional competition and in order of preference.

You're making too many assumptions considering you haven't seen us play once this season.
How could you possibly know?
This is an excellent point, apart from the fact I have seen us play this season. And on top of that I've seen 10 minutes of every match, which is plenty to give a rough impression, especially after seeing half the team plenty over the last three years.
But otherwise crack on.
LWJ
This is the game where we give someone a proper tonking which we've been threatening to do so far in every game. We'll get a penalty to make up for all the non-calls we've had against Reading the past few seasons, they'll get a red for the same reason. We're league leaders and always attack - bout time we get some good decisions from the ref! Bournemouth would get a penalty whenever they entered the oppositions half in their promotion season!

You're right. In that basis you are quite the expert.
Top Flight
This Top Flight believes that Huddersfield are a good team and should be treated with the respect that their league position deserves.
On Saturday I would like to see Jaap Stam's men absolutely batter them. That is the best way to approach a game against the league leaders. Even if we have to play 60 minutes of the game with only 9 men.

Crowd. 17,451 - I'm bringing a few extras to this one. Taking advantage of the bring a friend season ticket offer. They're from London though, so I don't think I'll be able to convert them into Reading fans and they support Man U and are from Manchester originally.
Prediction - Reading 1 Town 0 (Joey)

LOL at the guy who thinks the Madstad is in West Reading, but perhaps they haven't got Google in Yorkshire yet.
