Guthrie Must Go After Refusal To Play
12 December 2012

Surely Danny Guthrie's days at Reading are now numbered after Brian McDermott revealed he refused to travel up to Sunderland for last night's 0-3 Premier League defeat. McDermott said that "Danny was definitely going to be involved" - yet the player failed to make the journey with the rest of the team. In any other job, refusal to turn up because you simply don't fancy it would be a straight sacking. With the transfer market open again for business in January, you would expect Guthrie to head up the departure list as McDermott looks to shuffle his side around to attempt to stay up this season. Guthrie has had his chances at Reading limited, making just six appearances, after signing from Newcastle on a free transfer during the close season. However rather than fight for his place he has chosen to take to Twitter to criticise his boss and has also had a bust up with McDermott widely reported. The player has issued another apology to his employers but at some point enough is enough.
