Andy Carroll Signs Short Term Contract
15 November 2021
By Hob Nob Anyone?
Reading have confirmed a temporary contract has been agreed with Andy Carroll to bring him to the club until mid-January. The Royals had been linked with the out-of-contract striker since the summer but have finally confirmed his arrival at Reading's injury problems up front continue. With Puscas struggling with form and a huge injury list that includes virtually all our other options up front Reading will be hoping that Carroll can make an immediate impact. We will of course be assuming that Carroll arrives at Reading match fit to come straight into the squad and that he can stay injury free during his short time at the club.
Carroll has been without a club this season after leaving Newcastle United in the Summer. Perhaps his most successful time of his career came during his first spell at Newcastle between 2006 and 2011 after he turned professional at the club. He made 80 league appearances for Newcastle, scoring 31 goals before making a 35-million-pound move to Liverpool, making him one of the most expensive footballers in the world at the time. He left after two and a half years, and West Ham were still happy to pay 15 million for his services. After six years with the Hammers, and another 26 league goals, he moved back to Newcastle on a free transfer. Carroll also has nine England caps and two goals for his country. There's no doubt that Carroll is a massive name, and he is still only 32, but time will tell to see what he can bring to Reading in the Championship.

Yeah agree - the club needs to be more ambitious and instead sign a proven Premier League striker with no injury record, a high scoring record, and also whose value is likely to double in the next few years. I'm sure we can get that for a £0 transfer fee and £8.5 / week in wages.
Spot on.
We NEED a striker. We are not allowed to buy anyone. We have a chance here to get someone in who, ok past his best, can score goals.
And as for "injury prone has been" !!.....yeah, let's look at our younger players who don't get injured...Meite, Joao, McIntyre, Azeez etc etc.
Bring the bloke in.

Someone who might play 30 games and score some goals would be a good place to start.

No. You are wrong. We are lucky to be able to get ANYONE in. We can't pick and choose.
Go on....so you reckon we can raid a lower league club, and bring in a quality striker ???? Not going to happen. FFP is killing us.
If we bring in ANYONE who at least can score goals then we should accept it.
Not sure some folks on here appreciate the dire financial restraints we are under

If FFP is killing us why pay Andy Carroll £8.5k a week to play 15 games and score 2 goals.
Jahmari Clarke can play 30 games and score 4. For about £1k a week we're already paying him.

You DON'T know Carroll will only play 15 games. And you can't seriously big up a player who has about half an hour
experience at playing at this level.

I wouldn't bet on it. Players have the power and there's no reason one would agree to a tiny basic and stacked bonuses, especially if they're prone to injury and in their 30s.

Are you seriously saying that AC is past it because he hasn't scored many goals in the Prem over the last few years - there are tons of strikers who fall into that category I'd love to have ... I think that even a pretty unfit AC would be a better option in the Champ than what we've got at the moment.

A strikers job isn't just scoring goals. It's bringing others into play. Would Clarke do that better? It's not fair to compare both players as they're a completely different kind of striker.

Can’t believe he would be signed without conditions around game time given his injury record
