Stadium Expansion Delayed

Reading's expansion of the Madesjki Stadium, which had been scheduled to start this month, has been put on hold once more while the Royals attempt to stay in the Premier League. The Royals have enjoyed sell out crowds throughout the entire league campaign with Reading in the top tier. It remains clear cut for Reading - the ground is too small for the Premier League but just fine for the Championship. Originally development work had been scheduled to start in February 2013 with most of the development to take place this summer, but this week the club came out and said that instead they will need to renew planning permission and keep the project on hold. The current plans were drawn up in 2007 and involve taking the roof off the stadium and building back to increase capacity to 38,000 from the current of just over 24,000. A successful end to this season and a promising start to next may be enough to get the project off the ground for next season.
