Beaten FA Cup finalists, Manchester City, visit the Madejski Stadium tomorrow night (Tuesday 14 May, 8pm kick-off) as Reading play their last home game of the Premier League campaign. The Royals then round off a hugely disappointing season with a visit to West Ham United on Sunday. The visit of Manchester City sees the getting together of two sides that have both under achieved this season. Reading were relegated with three games still to play while Manchester City followed up seeing United beat them to the title with an upset at Wembley this weekend as Wigan won the FA Cup final with a 90th minute goal. As least Reading fans have had plenty of time to get used to the idea of relegation this season. There could still be some drama left in the season for Manchester City with continued rumours that Roberto Mancini is about to be shown the door. A Reading victory may help further those rumours.
In reality there is nothing left to play for with both sides likely to finish in their current position in the table. However, Manchester City need a point from their last two games to guarantee a second place finish. Reading also need just a point to guarantee a 19th place finish, and make sure that it's QPR that finish bottom of the table. The Royals have used home advantage to impressive effect against City in the past. Reading have won both their home games against City in the Premier League and haven't conceded a goal in the process. In 2006 Ingimarsson's goal was the difference as Reading won 1-0, and in 2008 Long and Kitson got the goals as Reading won 2-0. Another scoreline along those lines would make it two straight wins for Reading in the league and if nothing else give a confidence boost ahead of next season's Championship campaign.
