Royals Return To League Action Against Spurs

Reading, at last, are back in Premier League action this weekend as Spurs visit the Madejski. It's been a long wait for a league game - not far off a month since the opening two games against Stoke and Chelsea. It will be 25 days on Sunday since Reading travelled to Chelsea and were unlucky not to come away with at least a point. While Reading had a single league cup victory against Peterborough United inbetween, Spurs have picked up two league points after two home draws followed an opening day away defeat. Both teams will be looking for their first league win of the season in front of a live TV audience.

The game should see the return of Gylfi Sigurdsson - unfortunately in a Tottenham shirt rather than the hoops. As happens so often on these occassions we're expecting at least a goal from Sigurdsson to make it a tough afternoon for the Royals. Sigurdsson to score and Reading to win - there might be some good odds on that.

The Royals may have Jimmy Kebe available for selection, perhaps on the bench, after his recent return to training after injury. The previously excellent, but now under some serious pressure, Adam Federici pulled out of International duty with a knee injury but is still favourite to start in goal for Reading. However, it does make you wonder if recent form, combined with a minor injury might be the excuse to change things around.

Reading's last six meetings with Spurs have seen three defeats and two draws, with the last two games seeing 0-1 defeats for the Royals. Our last victory was nearly six years ago when a 3-1 home victory with goals from Shorey, Sidwell and Doyle took us to 11th in the Premier League table. A win this time around would probably give us a similar league standing. Sunday's game against Spurs is sold out and kicks-off at 4pm.
