An out of form Liverpool side made the most of Reading's even worse run of form to deliver a single goal defeat at Anfield. The home side dominated the first half with Reading simply hanging on and delivering little in the way of a threat. Sterling scored on the half hour as Liverpool struggled to make the most of their chances to go in ahead at half time. Reading in return managed just a single effort that flew over the crossbar a few minutes before the break.
The second half did see an improvement from Reading and gave Liverpool a few nervous moments with a couple of efforts on target but Liverpool remained the most dangerous. There could be no arguing with the result.
