Manchester United and England's Danny Welbeck is rumoured to be on his way to Reading on a loan until the end of the season. The story is widely reported this morning although it remains an rather unlikely rumour rather than anything else. It would obviously be great to see such a big name come to Reading to help in the fight against relegation but surely it depends on if there is potential for Welbeck to get regular football at United. Judging by his 23 appearances already for United this season, even if some have been off the bench, it seems that Fergurson has plenty of need for the player to stay.
Somehow I can't quite believe that an England player who has been banging in International goals would come to a side clinging on to Permiership survival when he is already getting plenty of action for the current run-away leaders of the Premier League. However it would be nice if this one came true. The Independent sum it up by giving it three out of five on the likely scale and say: "Welbeck needs more football and Reading need more goals. Brian McDermott is planning a cheeky six month loan offer to deal with both problems".
We fully expect this rumour to fade away and be replaced with equally dramatic rumours as long as the January transfer window remains open...
