Victory At Newcastle: Another Great Comeback

Reading followed up last weekend's amazing comeback against West Brom with the same again. This time the Royals came back from a goal down, scoring two goals inside the last twenty minutes, to defeat Alan Pardew's Newcastle United 2-1. This was another dramatic reversal on a similar level as Adam Le Fondre came off the bench with 70 minutes on the clock and promptly stuck in two goals to turn defeat to victory. The win was Reading's first away win of the season, made it 9 points from 4 games, and most importantly took Reading, before the Villa game, to 17th place and out of the relegation positions.

All the statistics will again point to the home team dominating the game - and Newcastle should have been a few goals ahead before the break. They took the lead on 35 minutes from a free-kick but were then denied by the excellent Federici in the Reading goal. Federici's return to form just as Reading start to pick up points and haul themselves towards safety is no coincidence. The home side had more shots and more possession but never looked confident and were already looking uncomfortable before McDermott's subtitutions. Akpan came off the bench and was followed on a few minutes later by super-sub Adam Le Fondre.

Leigertwood's pass of the match supplied Kebe on 71 minutes and his cross into the box was met by Le Fondre to make it 1-1. Just six minutes later Reading scored the winner when Le Fondre blasted home an impressive second goal - his tenth of the season.
