End Of Season Awards 2013/2014

Last year Alex McCarthy earned player of the season for a string of superb goalkeeping displays that earnt him a call-up into the England squad. McCarthy was second placed in the most improved player award where Hal Robson-Kanu quite rightly grabbed top spot. This time around it all belonged to Jordan Obita. Obita not only broke into the first team and held down a regular starting place to earn himself the award for most improved player, but he also went on to the look the best player on the pitch. Obita was regularly awarded man of the match in the second half of the season and quite rightly picked up the player of the season award too.

Obita had such a good season that he finished it off with appearances, and a goal, for the England Under-21s. He is regularly subject to transfer rumour and it seems that his days at the Madejski Stadium are limited. Now that the club is back under the charge, and near total ownership, of Chairman Sir John Madejski the club are set to cash in. Madejski has seen his fortune dwindle and still can't find someone to take the club off his hands meaning any reasonable offer will be accepted as the club attempt to settle some debts.

In other categories, the 3-1 away win at QPR was seen as the best performance of the season and the 1-3 home defeat to bottom of the table Barnsley was voted the worst. Despite players leaving, and no sign on anyone coming in to replace them, Reading fans are still confident of a midtable finish.

Player of the Season 2013/2014

For, I think, the very first time the voting for the player of the season and most improved player of the season ended up giving us an exact top three. In both categories Jordan Obita was the winner from Chris Gunter in second place and Garath McCleary in third. Both Gunter and McCleary had very impressive season and deserve their top three places.

Most Improved Player 2013/2014

Jordan Obita's winning margin was huge in this category as he came from no where to be voted Reading's best player this season. It was pretty much a one horse race. Looking down to third Pogrebnyak must have done something right this season as three percent of fans thought he was our best player and also our most improved player. Hector picked up some votes too. Next season will be interesting as more youngsters try and break into the starting eleven after the success of our Under 21 side.

Best Reading FC Performance 2013/2014

It was a hugely inconsistant season for the Royals - summed up by missing out on a play-off finish on the last day of the season after holding sixth for most of the campaign. The only consistant thing was the use of the word inconsistant week in week out. It was a disappointing season in a lot of ways but there were a few stand out impressive Reading performances. The two that really stood out were the 3-1 away win at QPR and the 7-1 home trashing of Bolton. Reading were a bit crap at home this season, so it was no wonder the 7-1 victory was seen as something a bit special. The now former Royal Adam Le Fondre hit three goals that day. Lets hope he doesn't do that at the Madejski again in the 2014/2015 season.

Worst Reading FC Performance 2013/2014

This was another season were there were plenty to choose form in the worst performance category. Reading's home form entirely abandoned them in the second half of the season. It's no suprise that the 1-3 home defeat against bottom of the table Barnsley collected the most votes. It was truly shocking afternoon. The 6-0 defeat against Peterborough was second but at least that was with a weakened side in the League Cup.

Next Season 2014/2015 - Where will Reading FC Finish?

This time last year we were banging out about Reading fans being massive optimists. Two years ago 89% of fans said we'd stay up in the Premier League (wrong!). One year ago over half of fans predicted an immediate return to the top tier of English football (wrong again!). This time around everyone is expecting a worse showing than this season with the vast majority (61%) predicting a midtable finish. There's still a crazy set of supporters though - over 15% think we'll be going up despite the turmoil off the pitch. But only 2% think we're going down. Are we being realistic this time around or will the lack of investment drag us down?
