The weather on Saturday may again play a greater part in the league
table positions come five oclock and therefore putting three more points
in the bag and opening up some day light between Reading and the teams around
us is a golden opportunity. This is a crucial fixture, as QPR have established
themselves as playoff contesters and some would say more! Stopping them
in their tracks will throw the gauntlet down to Bristol City, and Stoke
who both have some tough fixtures coming up as many of the top teams play
each other over the coming weeks. If Reading can continue their run, whilst
clubs with smaller squads struggle, as the fixtures mount up, we could emerge
to take back the top of the league and start to show some dominance. The
last time I got optimistic about our prospects was following the demolition
job we handed out to Wycombe, I really thought after that performance, which
in my mind is still our best home display of the season, we would go from
strength to strength. Instead, we flopped to three away losses and a home
draw against Bury. This time I hope it will be different as we come off
of two good away results and a hard earned if not pretty home win against
Vale. We are still in there with as good a chance as any of the top teams,
if not better, with our squad and facilities. I know that some sectors of
the crowd are desperate for some home entertainment and I include myself
to a certain extent although my attitude is mellowing as I become desperate
just to get out of this god forsaken division. Surely it is about time though
that things start to happen and we are due a good exhibition from our team
and hopefully on Saturday it will be at the expense of Rangers. Saturday
if nothing proved that Reading are up for it and will fight to the end,
and it will be an interesting battle against Rangers who still have some
quality if aging players like Peacock who could make life difficult. If
Pardew rewards Gamble with another chance in the first team, this could
be his chance to establish himself and give Reading and the fans the lift
which could prove so vital come the end of the season. Pardew and the boys
will really have to play ninety minutes of patient professional football
and focus on the prize which will reward them if they can maintain this
successful run. Lets hope home form is restored well and truly on Saturday.
Good Luck Reading. -- Paul Finch |
