The Recreation Ground, High Street, ALDERSHOT, Hampshire, GU11
1TW. Aldershot is only about 45 minutes away from Reading. The distance combined with Reading and Aldershot's past history makes this a very attractive fixture for the first friendly of the pre-season build up. There's plenty of parking around the ground - and failing that the town
centre car parks are a short walk away. Despite their non-league status
Aldershot are well used to fairly large crowds so even a sizeable Reading
following shouldn't cause any problems. The last time the two sides met in the League was way back in 1989 in the old Division Three. If my memory serves me rightly Stuart Beavon scored a late penalty to earn the Royals a 1-1 draw at the Rec. |
Team news |
Reading: Reading are expected to field a mixture of first team
and reserve team fixtures. A large number of the first team squad will
be at Maidenhead United for the reserve team fixture that takes place
at the same time as this game. The Aldershot fixture has top billing -
so expect a stronger line-up to take to the field at the Recreation Ground.
The club have confirmed the appearance of new signing Hughes, trialist Ben Thornley, Forster, Parkinson, Ashdown, Gamble and Harper at Aldershot.
Williams, Whitbread, Viveash, Murty, Robinson, Butler, Whitehead, and Igoe will be at Maidenhead.
